The Lost Thing

Summary

In the story "The Lost Thing" by Shaun Tna, a young man discovers a strange and unique creature that belongs nowhere. While the man decides to stay together with him to help it out by going on a journey with him, they both face various obstacles that distracts them. They don't give up following the arrows despite the obstacles and challenges they face, and continues to help the creature.

What is lost?

Their realization about the importance of embracing diversity and not conforming to societal expectations.

What does the Lost symbolize?

A symbol of being out of place, disconnected from the community, or not fitting into societal norms. Moreover, it represents the feeling of being unnoticed, overlooked, or being misunderstood within a structured and conforming environment.

The lost thing

Short summary

The man went to the sea to find new bottle cap. He found a wired look thing on the beach. He tryed to take it it's home hard. Finally they found the home of the lost things.

What's the main story, theme  what's the lost?

I think this video explains the process of being adult. When people get old, they have to think about their future. Then they lost thier imagination. Most people are not interested in the lost thing because of this. The  reason why he could see the lost thing is his childish hobby. When he found it, he was looking for bottle tops. The days with it means the life with child mind and the farewell to it means being adult. The author would send us a message that don't lose your imagination and curiosity even you become adult.

Symbol and metaphor

The city that is scarce in color = boringness
The lost things = imagination, pleasure

The Lost Thing

"The Lost Thing" tells the story of a young boy who discovers a bizarre creature on the beach. He tries to find the creature's owner or proper home, but everyone around him denies its presence. Despite the lack of support, the boy feels terrible for the creature and embarks on a trip to find out where it belongs.

I think this story metaphorically prompts us to seek out hidden spaces of acceptance and understanding, where oddities and peculiarities are celebrated rather than marginalized.

The Mermaid

 What's the main idea/short summary ?

There was a boy who found a mermaid at the ocean and brought it back home to show it to his parents. To the boy's shock, his parents could only see it as a fish. The boy is then sent to a facility where he is put through multiple experiments and mental torture to make him see the mermaid as a fish, like everyone else. Eventually, he stops being able to see the mermaid and becomes horrified by the fact. He goes back to the ocean out of desperation, and fortunately reunites with the mermaid. The two of them disappear into the ocean.

What do you think is going on? Social forces/commentary

I believe that this is commenting on how individualism was heavily frowned upon in Japan at the time(still sort of is today) and the negative implications forcing everyone to the same mindset could have.

What happens at the end?

The boy is able to see the mermaid again and they both swim away in the ocean. The boy becomes a mermaid as well.

The Lost Thing

 SUMMARY

The Lost Thing is about a boy who finds a strange looking creature on the beach. He plays with the creature for a bit but figures out that it is lost and he tries to find where it belongs. However, he can not seem to find it`s home. The people around him also seem to barely see the thing`s presence.

My Thoughts

I think this story represents the fact that things that are uniquedo not belong in this world. However I feel that the boy breaks the norm and helps the thing to find where it belongs. I also feel that the sotry shows that even if you are lost you can find importance and meaning in life.

The lost thing

 Summary

A boy went to a beach to find a bottle, but instead he found a creature looks like an alien. He thought it was lost and he tried to find  its’ home.

What is lost

What lost in the short film is innocence. Everyone around him didn’t think the creature was there. They ignored its presence, because they thought they knew about the world completely. They didn’t try to learn or explore. The boy could see the creature because he was innocent.I think this story try to tell we have to stay innocent to grow.

The Lost Thing

 Main story:

The story is set in a dystopian society, where a man recalls the time he found a strange crab-like creature that seemed lost. He asks people throughout the city about the creature's whereabouts, but no one seems to know or care. Then, he goes to a facility advertised on TV for lost and found items, where he's informed by a janitor(?) working at the place to bring the creature to a different location if he really cares for it. After some traveling, the two reach the location and to the man's surprise, there were tons of creatures similar to the crab in the sense that they all looked quite goofy. He bids farewell to the creature and hasn't thought back to it much since.

The lost thing:

I believe the lost thing symbolizes childhood innocence/joy/imagination that tends to get fade away as you grow up and get into the "real world". There's a stark contrast between the location filled with the lost things and the human society, with the former being blindingly colorful and the latter being monotonous. No one in the city seems to care because they've either lost interest in it or are too busy with their own problems to give it any attention.

The Lost Thing

 Summary

One day a man stumbles upon a weird looking creature in the beach which was later preferred as the "lost thing". Later the man was looking for the place where the lost thing belonged. At the end they found a place where there were many like the lost thing.

What is thing?

I believe the thing is like our imagination, back when I was I child, if I’m lost or if there is nothing in mind. I like d to imagine weird things in my head. I think it is something similar to it.

What I thought

I think the story is telling us about our imagination. When we were younger, we used to imagine many things, when bored, lonely or other occasions. But after we grew older we stop imagining much any more.

The Lost Thing(2010)

 The Lost Thing

The thing is a metaphor for people who have difficulty finding the place they think they belong to. In the beginning of the film, nobody about the protagonist seemed to care about the thing , which was feeling lost.

The climax is the scene where the protagonist said maybe there aren’t many lost things around anymore or many I’ve just stopped noticing too busy doing other stuff I guess.  This scene made me realize that This film is an reflection of our world.

I thought  this film is also about imagination. When we were little, we use to be curious about anything but as we grow , we become less curious and stop enjoying things around us.  At the end of the film, the protagonist seems to have an actual job and wears a suit.  This means He ended up being like other people, no time or energy to care for other things, just living with no purpose.

The Lost Thing

Summary: A boy goes to a beach to find bottle tops, but instead, he discovers a bizarre looking creature. The boy, thinking that the creature is lost, tries to find the owner or where it belongs. Though nobody else seem to notice the creature's existence. Then, the boy feels sorry for the creature and looks for its home.

What is the "Lost Thing"?: Similar to Mermaid by Osamu Tezuka, I think this story tells us about the power of imagination and how we lose it as we grow older, and the loneliness of being able to see what nobody else could see.

The Lost Thing

Summary

Story take place in the dystopian society and the protagonist who is a collector is talking about the time when he found a thing he refers as "The Lost Thing". It all began when he went to the beach finding the out-of-place creature at the beach. Intrigued by its presence, protagonist engaged in playful interaction but after realizing it dosent have any owner, protagonist and "The Lost Thing" embarked on the journey to find its owner or the place it belongs. They went through the city eventually finding a sancutuary like place full of the odd and forgotten objects.

What "The Lost Thing" represents

I think it represents the unique imagination and playfulness adults and young adults often lose in the process of becoming an adult. And it also serves as an reminder that how much curiosity and creativity faded as we each individual adapted to societal norms and expectation.

The lost thing

Summary

The lost thing is a story about a boy who finds a creature at the beach. No one seems to notice it and the man decides to take it home. Trying to find out where the strange creature came from, the man and the creature follow the arrows and finally made it to a place where many other strange creatures lived.

What is lost?

In my opinion, the lost thing is the imaginations we used to have as a child. As we grow older, we are busy focusing on work and we do not notice the things around us. We also forget about the imaginations and dreams we had in our childhood.

The lost thing

"The Lost Thing" is a story about a boy who finds a strange creature at the beach. He tries to locate its owner or rightful home, but everyone around him dismisses the creature's presence. Despite the lack of support, the boy feels sorry for the creature and sets out on a journey to find where it truly belongs.

At the end of the video the protagonist said “I see that sort of thing less and less these days though. Maybe there aren’t many lost things around anymore. Or maybe I’ve just stopped noticing them. Too busy doing other stuff, I guess.” and by that line I guessed that the lost thing is a metaphor for youth and dreams.

By growing over time, as a result I think that all the dreams and expectations we had when we were young gradually fade away.

The Lost thiNg

 Summary

In "The Lost Thing," a young man discovers a strange creature that seems to be lost. However, no one else in the world notices it. So, the man decides to help the creature. He goes on a journey to find where the creature truly belongs. Along the way, he faces different obstacles and experiences unusual things in his world. But he doesn't give up, following the mysterious arrows, he continues to help the lost thing.

The Lost Thing

 Summary:

The Lost Thing is a story about a boy who discovers a bizarre-looking creature while collecting bottle-tops at a beach. He tries to find out who owns it or where it belongs, but is met with indifference by everyone else. Despite his better judgement, the boy feels sorry for the creature and attempts to find out where it belongs.

What is lost? What does it symbolize? :

In my opinion the thing that is lost in the animation is the imagination and the childlike innocence we had in our childhood. The reason for this is the appearance of the “lost thing”. It was red, huge and looked like a crab. Though, the other “lost things” looked different from the red one. Some flew in the air, one was shaped like an instrument, and one had pencil and was drawing on the ground. Additionally, the main character was saying “ I see that kind of thing less and less these days. Maybe there aren’t many lost things around anymore. Or maybe…maybe I’ve just stop noticing. Too busy doing other stuff, I guess.” These words I think is representing how when people become an adult, we tend to fit in to others and forgets about the dreams and the imaginations we had as a child.

Shin・The Lost Thing analysis

Summary

The man found the lost thing on the beach in a summer and they begin to find the home of it. Later the man finds out that there are many lost things out there ins the world. In the end, they found a secret place where the lost thing goes into to stay forever.

What's the lost thing?
I think the lost thing is our childish vision or the ability to find fun in a seemingly plain world. One reason is that, because the colors of the lost things are very bright, a stark contrast to the other dim colors used in the animation. These beautiful colors are often used in child animation or books. Further more, a tiny detail, only the scene with the lost thing in it has ambient music playing. Another reason is that the lost things are essentially the objects we see everyday. As adults, we don't have the imagination of a child, everything is what it supposed to be. For a young child, the world is so joyful and colorful, anything can be a playmate.

What does it symbolize?
At the beginning of the video and through out the video, there is no child character exist. Every human character doesn't seem to actually care about the lost things, or anything at all, despite their abnormal looking and behavior. This detail symbolizes the boring vision adults have. Moreover, the scene which has the lost thing in it, there is music playing. This gives out a calming atmosphere making the dusty world looks somewhat better. Therefore, I think the lost things represents the happy little things in a busy adult life that we are not able to see.
In order to get rid of the lost thing, the man is asked to fill out tons of papers, these papers represent the burden from a job. The more works you do the less able you are to see the lost things (happiness).
I think the author wants to convey a message that if we slow down and look closely around us, we can find many lost things. Once we find it, the world could be brighter and more hopeful than it looks like.

Mermaid

What’s the main idea? Short summary

A boy sat on the beach lonely met a mermaid. He took the mermaid to his house, then he showed it to his parent, but his parents couldn’t see what he wanted to show. The mermaid was his imagination. Imagination is prohibited in his country, so he was brought to the government's experimental facility and tortured not to think about imaginary things. One day, he ran away from the facility and went his home. He couldn't see the mermaid anymore. then he went to the beach where he met the mermaid first. When he released the fish, the mermaid showed up. He was glad to reunite.

 Reaction

I think Osamu Tezuka expressed the importance of diversity in this animation. He wanted Japanese people to have own strong personality. During the war, there are regulation on speech. People are taught to have same idea to unite strongly. The legacy of war still existed in 1964. He thought this situation was terrible, then he worried about future of Japan and made this animation.

 What happened in the end?

The boy became normal the government think by being tortured and he couldn’t imagine the mermaid. It was painful for him, but he could imagine it when he released the fish to the sea. Finally, he dived into the sea with mermaid. I think he committed suicide. Osamu Tezuka send a message to us. Don’t mind the differences with others. Develop your personality. Don’t be general. These messages still have strong impact on our society now.

MERMAID.

 Short summary,

In this fictional universe, having an imagination is banned by the government and its considered as illegal. However, one day, a boy saves a fish and in his head, he imagines it as a mermaid. This surprises everyone and makes the government angry, even tho he wasn't causing harm to anyone, and was just happy by himself and his own imagination. The government arrests him and tortures him to make him lose his imagination, which is the mermaid. He fights back for a long time but at the end, he can't remember the mermaid anymore. Instead, his mind is filled with the information that he might not even need, which the government forced him to learn.

My thoughts,

I don't know what everyone else thinks of the story, or what was the true meaning of it but, in my point of view, this is a story of society trying to get rid of creativity. It kind of reminds me of my home country, Iran.

The main character find joy, music, and is finally happy being himself but the society doesn't like that, no one is used to it, they find it weird and not acceptable, most of them might even think of him as an mentally ill person.

Not even his parents can understand him so they all turn on him.

He is put through therapy, and is forced to learn things that are supposed to help him be accepted by the society.

And unfortunately, because he doesn't have the support of the others, and people around him might not agree with him because of their own reasons ( could be religious, could be being scared of the government, could be personal reasons ) he loses the fight and gives up at the end, becoming like everyone else and losing his diversity.

Mermaid

short summary

The boy was seeing a hallucination. He tried to force them to believe the mermaid, but others doesn't allow him to imagine freely.

my evaluation

This short video is a sarcasm. I thought the boy was either mentally deranged or running away from reality. I've heard that people start to hallucinate when they are strongly preoccupied with something in their minds. Apart from that, I also wondered why other people force him to let him see the reality. What did he do to those people?

what will happen at the end

After he see the reality, it seemed he had a big shock, and again, he was running away from reality in another way. I hope he doesn't suicide.

☆Shin・Mermaid・Interpretation☆

From my perspective, the main idea of this short film is everyone cannot see the boy’s mermaid friend, yet trying to convince the boy that the mermaid does not exist at all. Eventually, the boy escaped from the torture with his mermaid friend.

I think the author is trying to describe the strict censorship of imaginary arts or fantasies during that period. In the film, the only character who is able to see the imaginary mermaid is the young boy, who is at the age of imagination. The adults torturing the boy with highly inhumane means is a metaphor for the censorship or education at a time when imagination is considered to be useless even harmful. I lived in China for 15 years and I can understand this very much. China has very strict censorship on everything. Anything besides study is seen as a waste of time. At the end of the film, embracing his imagination, the boy escapes from the harsh world for good. This ending is happy and sad since the boy can only keep his imagination alone.

My interpretation of the ending is the boy committed suicide. After the torture, the boy lost his imagination and life became meaningless. For a young boy, killing his fantasy is like killing his existence. Without his mermaid friend, and being pushed to the edge, both figuratively and literally, the boy lost all his hope and jumped off the brink. In the afterlife, the boy and his imaginary friend live happily after.

mermaid

The main idea of this video is imagination. A boy saves a fish and imagines that it becomes a mermaid. He then gets arrested because the world he lives in does not allow imagination. During his time in prison, it seemed like the government were torturing him, trying to make him forget about the mermaid. Times passes, and the boy starts to forget what the mermaid looked like. Then, he escapes and goes back to where he found the fish in the first place. At the end, the mermaid shows up again and the boy also goes into the ocean and they both disappear. I think this video is trying to tell us about how society control our thoughts and how education took away children’s individuality.

Mermaid

 - Main Idea

I think this anime tells us imagination is amazing, and no one should not be bothered to imagine by others.

-  What’s going on

The main character loves to imagine or maybe it wasn’t imagination but non-fiction though. However, no one believes him and people blamed him for being different from them. They want all the people stay same as others because differences can threat them.

-  What happened to the end

He left with Mermaid. This means he went to find somewhere he could be mentally free. He didn’t give up even though people tried to make him. I think this is a message that we should keep dreaming and imagining, and e we should not give up on it.

Mermaid Analysis

The video depicted a boy who daydreamed about a mermaid. The story subtly conveyed a theme of totalitarianism, where imaginative or dissenting thoughts are strictly prohibited. Furthermore, it illustrated how societal norms, expectations, and limitations can erode an individual's sense of self and identity. Although the ending was somewhat ambiguous to me, I interpreted the scene where the boy and the mermaid were in the ocean as a metaphor for the character's expulsion from society.

Mermaid

1. What's the main Idea

There are no boundaries that could limit imagination and free will, and nothing can stop or crush them, regardless of how society or even the authorities may try.

2. What is going on

So honestly speaking, I am having a hard time trying to understand what is going on in this animation, especially in the last part. However, one thing that is clear to me is that the government or society is trying to forcefully suppress the boy's imagination and impose its beliefs on him. Despite this, the boy is resilient and refuses to give up his imagination.

3. What happened in the end

I'm not 100% sure, but it seems like the boy in the animation initially succumbed to the pressure of the authorities. However, he managed to break free from their grasp and defended his imagination ability. As a result, the authorities eventually gave up on trying to suppress his imagination. I think it is trying to show strength and resilience of human spirit and the power of imagination.

Mermaid review

What happened from my point of view

The video is about a boy who saves a fish and imagines that it becomes a mermaid. Little did we know that in the country where the boy lives, imagining is prohibited. As a result, the boy is tortured in an attempt to make him “normal” and prevent him form imagining things that are not real. After a brief period of forgetting what the mermaid looked like, the boy decides to escape and return to the place where he saved the fish. There, he remembers the mermaid’s appearance and decides to drown himself, perhaps because he cannot bear thought of being  unable to imagine or because he is disappointed in himself for forgetting.

Tezuka Osamu Mermaid review

Tezuka Osamu created this short film to send a message to society. I believe that message was to show that the evolution of society was headed in the wrong way. On the official website it says “ Around the time of this production, Japan's fiercely competitive examinations were criticized for producing average children with no individuality all over Japan”. This is still the case when it comes to school in Japan. There is not much uniqueness among the children leading them end up having no future goals or dreams. An unfulfilled and regretful life is the worst way to live in my opinion because you always focus on what could be and don’t appreciate what you have.In this fictional country where the short film takes place, it is illegal to have an imagination. This made me realize another message, to be grateful for what we have and what we can do with that freedom.

Kai Mermaid analysis.

Through this animation I believe Mr. Tezuka showed us that imagination is something that is limitless and that only us humans have access to it. During the animation the boy is locked up for continuing to use his imagination even when told not to. I think Mr. Tezuka was trying to tell us that society was and still is trying to control how we think and is trying to prevent us from thinking outside the box. After going to his official website it said that children all around Japan were being produced with no indivisualism. I think that Mr. Tezuaka hated this and he wanted to show us that we have to keep a strong will to not be regulated by  the goverment. Overall I think he wanted to show us how regulated the society that we live in is.
