Self-introduction

Hello.I'm HarukaFujii. Nice to meet you . I will introduce myself. I live in the dormitory which stands in AGU. This dormitory is too strict for the university student who should be live an brilliant life. I suffer at the closing time... I change a topic. I could not reading and writing like other people because I have not studying abroad experience well, but I want to speak well. I do my best as hard as possible in this class. Thanking you in advance.

I usually look for person unlike me when making a friend. That reason is that I could find various ideas and lifestyle by interchange with the person. I think it is amazing for each other to develop each personality through the relationship.

Human Relations: what counts in communicating

Dr.Armstrong, thank you for your warm-hearted comment on my previous post.

In communicating, it seems to me of paramount importance how much common knowledge we(participants in conversation) have. I seem to remember I read some book (maybe on ragmatics or something)that defined communication as the process of making deeper our understanding of each other with the help of information or background already shared. The information or back-
ground functions as a reference point here.

Now that I mentioned it, when reading books, background knowledge helps us understand the author's ideas more cleary then we would without the help of it. That occurs quite often, I believe. If we subsume reading activities in communication, that is, if we consider it some form of communication, that seems to me quite reasonable from the above argument(?).

Getting back to our original theme, it is the shared information (including interest, hobby, plan, etc..)that counts greatly in communicating, I believe, and it is almost automatically concluded
that it is one of the qualities that I look for in good human relations. This is not to say that it's meaningless to try to get familiar with those of different backgroud, of course.

Maybe Dr.Armstrong's comment "my best friends...are interested in the arts and culture." has something to do with my opinion.

Human Relations

Hi everyone. Thanks to all who have jumped right in and posted. Shunta, you have a great vocabulary! Don't avoid speaking/keep practicing and we'll try to get your pronunciation and intonation to a better place. This is class is our guilt-free mistake and practice zone! Others, good beginnings and intros (but don't forget to use spellcheck before posting).

Let's think/talk about what we ourselves value in our relationships. What are the qualities that you look for in a good friend? For me, my best friends are outgoing and have a good sense of humor, like Japan (of course!), and are interested in the arts and culture. Most of my good friends are readers and movie-goers. They all have strong opinions and enjoy discussing them.

What about a boyfriend/girlfriend? Is it important that he/she be intelligent? Sexy? Funny? Comfortable to be around? What do you look for in this kind of relationship?

In the future, how do you think this will be different (or maybe not?) when you are thinking of someone as a possible life partner?

Self-introduction

My name is Shunta Tsuji. Let me give a brief self-introduction to you all.

Much unlike health-conscious Dr. Armstrong, I like fast-food so much that I find myself in McDonald's at least twice a week. Especially I like their French fries more than anything.

I attend other faculty's classes so often: gametheory, microeconomics, French linguistics, history of Japanese legal system, history of Japanese economics...maybe you name it. The well-worn cliche jack-of-all-trades and master of none applies to me perfectly.

On a different and more IE-related subject, I often find myself in difficulties making myself understood in English(maybe it is also the case with Japanese) especially due to my terrible, atorocious pronunciation and intonation. But this class is speaking-oriented one, I think I should make efforts to weather it. Thank you.

Good evening

I'm Matsuhashi Junpei. I live in Machida. Machida is more lively city in this area. Some famous department stores are stand close together around Machida station and shopping districts near by Odakyu line are always crowded with people.

It looks that the city has no problem. But, when I walk a underground passage in every morning, there are middle-aged men sleeping without blankets. they may be homeless people. It was about april in the last year I saw them for the first time. Though I don't know how long they
stay such a place exactly, they should be heavy.

I think that anyone could be homeless people in this harsh time. Therefore, It is necessary for us to make relationship with people to stand up to hardship.

Nice to meet you! I am Yumi Aihara:) I live in Yokosuka. Yokosuka is far place from Fuchinobe.

It takes two hours to get to Aoyama Gakuin. Yokosuka is famous for the naval base, so there are many, many Americans! At night, yokosuka is like foreign country. Sometimes I go there to learn English. We usually can't enter there, but a festival is held there twice a year. It is spring festival and summer festival. Spring festival was held on last Sunday. Summer festival will be held in August! If you are interested in the naval base, you come to Yokosuka!

I like to listen to music, go shopping and cook! I usually go to Yokohama to go shopping and play with my friends at holiday. Thank you for reading my journal. I hope to see more of you :)
