It's 3 in the morning. I just finished working on all of my homeworks, including book reports, listening presentation, writing presentation, podcast, and so on...
When I finish typing this blog, I'm done with all the work I have to do for the week!!!
However, I have test for Korean class this Saturday so I better study for it.
Anyways, now I have to get ready to go to work so I guess I have no time to sleep today.lol

the otaku culture

I agreed with the definition the guy said for the words Otaku, Moe, Cosplay, and Burikko, but totally disagree on the definition of Tsundere.
The guy explained that it is when you say something meanful when you don't really mean because you are shy. However, I think Tsundere is the action when one person usually acts mean but rarely expresses love or show nice attitudes to the others. Connecting with other words, when someone treats you "Tsundere-ly", that is the time you get "Moe" feeling.

Hard Week

There's too much work to do this week!
I have book report, two presentation, two french test and all the exams are waiting.
I'm a person who needs enough sleep everyday, so it's hard...
Also I have to work three days in a row this weekend.
University is much harder than I imagined!

Lunch

Today I really wanted to eat udon for lunch but when I was buying the ticket, I mistakenly bought ramen. It was so sad because I really wanted to eat udon a lot! Be careful when your buying a ticket!

The Otaku Culture

1. Otaku- I don't fully agree with the definition. Because I feel that being otaku doesn't mean they are obsessed with only games, anime, and manga. I think loving idols can be otaku because you're obsessed with them.

2. Moe- Since I have never experienced this feeling, I don't know if I can agree to it or not. Though if I were to chose, I would say agree.

3. Cosplay- I totally agree with the definition. I seems like people who cosplay are trying to become the person who they love.

4. Tsundere- I agree with the definition.

5. Burikko- I disagree with the definition. I think tsundere is a weapon that girls use to attract boys.

Summer

It's almost summer vacation. What are you guys up to?

Today I booked a hotel near the beach in Enoshima because my friend and I are going there before she goes back to Korea. Also I am going to Ooita where my grandpa was born. I had never visited there so I am very excited!!

Now I can not wait till the exams are over... ugh I hate exams... Who doesn't right?

Lunch

I'm having lunch at the cafeteria with nami right now. Ramen for this week is gyokai tonkotu ramen and it tastes very good ! You should try it!

Otaku Culture Video

I think the man explained the Otaku culture clearly, but I couldn't agree with some of them.

First it's the definition of "Otaku".
I think Otaku isn't just for animation and manga.
In Japan we say Otaku as a person who is in an expert in some kind of subject.
For example Idol Otaku, Tetsudou Otaku and Yakyuu Otaku are genres of Otaku.

Secondly, I thought "Tsundere"'s term was weird.
The maid in the video was shouting, "Die!" and I don't think that's tsun.
Tsun should be an attitude being shy, not being rude.
Also, they didn't show the "Dere" part.

Finally, the "Burikko" was completely wrong.
In the video, they said that old women do it but in my opinion, "Burikko" isn't about age.
It's about the attitude women shows to make her look cute and attractive.

Academic interests

I was wondering what are you guy's academic interests.

I am particularly interested in psychology, and have been studying it by myself from when I was in high school.

My job for the summer

I plan to work at an amusement park during the summer, and it is sort of an attraction type park. You can do all sorts of activities like bungee jumping and etc.

It is called Sora Stadium, and this year it is held in Toyosu.

What are you going to do in your summer vacation? Since we have such a long summer break, I bet people are going back to their hometown or going on vacation. I will visit my grandmother and I think I might visit my sister as well. My sister lives in Kobe so I can visit her whenever I want to. I hope I can visit her! Bye!

I can't believe the IE class is almost over. I know we still have IE seminar in the second term but the class we have now will seperate. I hope we will keep in touch even if we have different classes in the second term. Anyway, we have about one more month to go until we have our summer vacation! Can't wait!

I think the definition that was in this video was pretty the same as what I thought of. I thought that this video thought a lot about how to explain otaku vocabulary in a understandable way. Many people should understand otaku vocabulary, thanks to this video.

I think the main point of this video was that there are a lot more logos and brands than you think. You get your influence from them without noticing. I believe that an otaku is not a person with specific interest in anime itself but a specialist in a certain field. There are words in japan like "eiga-otaku"(movie otaku) and "idol otaku."
So Gilbert's definition is very limited.

I agree most of the part, but like others I don't think the definition of Burikko is accurate. We don't use the word Burikko for elderly women that much, and instead of,we use it for girls.

"Burikko" is not a word just for old ladies. I suppose faking one's age is not same as being a burikko. It can be used for girls no matter how old they are.
And also "Tsundere" is quite different from what I thought. What the main point of being tsundere is not acting like a rude. In this video, a maid said "Die!" over and over again. Okay then what is "dere"? I don't think they mentioned it in the video.
I had ever seen the guy in the videos who cosplayed as Goku from The Dragon Ball on TV shows. In that program, he and a Japanese actor went to maid cafe, and that was hilarious.

summer

I think most people like to go to the sea in summer. However, I like to go to the mountains instead. This is because it is more comfortable in the mountains. Another reason is because I like to ride on horses. When I was in Kyushu, I sometimes rode on horses. I haven't rode on horses since I moved to Tokyo. If I have a chance to visit Kyushu, I would like to go to the mountains.

I think the guys in the video did really good job explaining otaku terms. But I wasn't sure "Tsundere" and "Burikko" is right. In the video, the maid girl only showed "Tsun" which means to be ignorant or act as if you hate the person. "Dere" part is where the girl shows the feeling of love or like. "Burikko" is someone who acts too cute. Age doesn't matter. No matter cute the girl is, if she was acting cute too much or with fakeness, then she is Burikko. But it really depends on how the person gets it.

Osaka!

On Friday night, I left Tokyo for Osaka by bus. We went there for National Competition of my dance club to cheer my seniors. It was going to be held on Sunday, so we had whole Saturday to tour around Osaka. We arrived at 6, which was so early that there were nowhere but izakaya was open. We ate kushikatsu there until 8 and slept for 1 hour til the Tsutenkaku opens. We went Tsutenkaku, Osakajou, Doutonbori, and Shinsaibashi. It was really fun!

BBQ

On Sunday, I went to BBQ with the ESS members at Futakoshinchi.
It was really fun. We met many Aogaku students from other circles or club activities.
That day, it was one of the hottest days I had ever experienced. I hope everyone is okay.
I haven't had BBQ for years, and it reminded me of my days in the US.
I especially liked the Yakisoba.
I wish we could go there again.

The explanation from the guy was okay as a whole but I could not agree with him about "tsundere" and "burikko".
The man got the "tsun" part right but he did not explain the "dere" part.  "tsundere" is not just being rude to someone even you really like he or she, but also you have to become very nice sometimes as well.
About "burikko".  "burikko" does not mean to fake your age but to act cute to someone even though you really act like ordinarily.  However, I know it is hard for foreginers to understand these kind of stuff so the video will do for now.

Too may things to do!

I cannot believe I have so many things to the rest of this month!  Tomorrow is the due day for our book report, still have to get ready for the group presentation and there more than five things left to do besides this!  It's my fault for postponing things so I can't have any complaints but it does not change the fact that I am going to have a hard time.

I went to the lecture Naho wrote on this blog with her. I was really impressed by the lecture and I'm really happy that I could attend to it. Thank you Naho, for giving me information about this lecture!

I agreed the definition of  "otaku" mostly, but the explanation of the word "brikko" was different from what I thought.
In the video, burikko is used when you see old women who act like a cute girl, but I think this word is used for young girls.
Anyway, it was very funny video and I enjoyed it.

Powerpoint

Right now I am working on my group project of American Literature Class, but I am having hard time making it to powerpoint. Accidentally, I found the USB drive which I had not used for about five years. I opened the file, and there was a powerpoint I had made when I was in Guam! It was about Ancient Chinese Civilization. I was about 13 years old, but the powerpoint was great. It contained a lot of pictures and charts to make the information clear. I feel so nostalgic to see these Guam stuff. I want to go Guam, but most of my friends have graduated already so I'll just go visit them in like NY or Boston.

This weekend

This weekend I did not hang out with my friends for the first time in a long time. I had two days off, and I worked on my homework, especially IE. I finished book report, persuasive essay, and really english by Saturday HAHA. Therefore I had Saturday totally free. I used it to go shopping and read magazines. I want to go karaoke. Someone let's go!

Thinking about my work

As I mentioned in the blog before I am working at Japanese food restaurant near my house. However, I am starting to think that I should work as a teacher at a cram school too, since I want to be a teacher after I graduate from college. I think I am going to work as a teacher for the short time in summer. It is really nice that I can speak English. English is universal, so thank you  mommy and daddy for moving to Guam, I love you.

I think the definition of the words mentioned in this video is quite the same as what I have thought. However, I think burikko is not the word for the women around 30 or 40. I think there are many burikko in college too, so I think the age does not matter. I did not like the opening song, watashitachi wa koibito. What the. Other than that it was pretty funny video.

I agreed with almost of the definitions but cannot agree with the explanation about burikko.  In the video, it said that burikko is a women around 30 or 40 or more older who acts to be like a pretty girl.  But I think that there are young burikkos in Japan.  When I was in elementary school, I had a burikko friend.

Otaku culture is now popular in many countries.  It will be nice if foreign people get more and more interested in Japan.

 I couldn't believe the person who made this video is PhD graduate from Tokyo university but I thought his explanation of otaku culture was  pretty good as a whole.

The two women who were faking their cuteness, acting "Burikko"were both old, so I thought the producer of this video recognizes the meaning of "Burriko" as something like faking one's cuteness to fake her age.
But I guess young women do "Brikko"more than old women and they do it to attract men. I think the meaning of "Brikko" is close to "flirting".

Lecture

I went to a lecture which was about communication.  The lecture was very interesting.  The presenter was Mrs.Narahashi who is a movie producer.  She chose the cast of Last Samurai, Sayuri, Babel and Shuusen no Emperor.  The audience felt the importance of communication through some activities like information game.  I decided to see the Shuusen no Emperor at the movie theater.

Mexican Food

Next Tuesday I'm going to have a Mexican dinner with my friend. I love tacos and burritos, but I don't see Mexican restaurants in Tokyo that much. I searched if there's Taco Bell, though it said that they don't have them in Japan now. So, I'm really excited! Can't wait until Tuesday comes. I'm looking at the menu on their website all the time. Mmm.

Gilbert's definition for otaku, a person with obsessive interests, is a pretty good way of defining it.
Moe was not quite the definition I thought it would be. I thought it would be more on the lines of like saying "how cute !!".
The explanation of cosplay was accurate.
Taundele is more or less right. Icyhot was not a bad way of explaining it.
Burikko a person who is faking her cuteness and also a person who makes people irritated would be my explanation.
