ー Summary
The story takes place in country where imagining is prohibited. The boy saves a fish which turns into a mermaid. He brings her back home but his parents won't believe him that he brought home a mermaid because all they could see was a fish. He gets caught, tortured and brainwashed which eventually made him forget about the mermaid. However, when he brought the fish back to the ocean, the fish turned into a mermaid again.

ー Ending
I think he killed himself when he brought the fish back to the ocean. So I guess the last part of the story was his imagination in heaven.

ー Message
I think this story is mainly about totalitarianism. Maybe the film-makers were trying to tell us the importance of creative freedom and imagination which were beginning to disappear because of the controlled educational system and the oppressive government in that time.

It was really tiring. 

I am watching "Rogue One" for the second time and it is very good.

The Mermaid

1. Who are the main characters?
The main characters are the boy and the mermaid.(the parents and the armies are the antagonists)

2.Summary
 The boy imagines the fish turning into the mermaid and then plays with her. He takes the mermaid home and shows it to his parents but they do not see the fish as the mermaid. He was taken to the army and they force the boy to forget the mermaid and punishes him. He forgets about the mermaid until he takes the fish to the ocean and runs away with the mermaid.

3.Messages
The relationships between parents and a child
 The period that this film was released was in 1965, know as the high economic growth period not long after world war 2. Due to its rapid growth of the economy, the relationships between a child and their parents probably changed a lot. The parents were not able to come home and interact with their children since they had to work in order to keep up with the sudden growth of the economy. In the film, the boy's parent only appeared for merely about 10 seconds. His parents did not believe the boy about the mermaid and did not reappear when the boy was in pain. This shows the cold relationships between the family.

The freedom of children 
 Along with the economy, the education of the children has also changed. They changed the system of the education to be more "fair" resulting in the suppression of those who are unique or has more talents. The boy's imagination was his talent and it shows that the government is stopping the boy's talents instead of improving the talent.

Those were my thoughts on the film. The ending was very mysterious.... I thought that the shadow at the end means that his imagination won. The people in the film were drawn as transparent stick figure but after the boy strongly believed the mermaid, he and the mermaid was able to be free and have a full body with colors.🐟

Last day of April

2017 is going way too fast...1/3 of the year has ended!!! January and February was the hardest time of my life(because of juken) but I feel like it was such a long time ago! Now I'm in Aogaku and happy that I'm surrounded by fun people like you all:) I'm excited for the first summer as a uni student!

IELTS

I registered the IELTS test for June! I have no idea how the test is like so I have to check the textbooks!

Yesterday I had lunch at the school canteen with Hanae and Yuma, I had Soboro Don for the first time in my life. I love Japanese cuisine and have tried many of them but I haven't seen Soboro on any restaurant's menu before. It has minced chicken meat, egg and red ginger placed on the rice. Chicken broth seeps into the rice and makes it really tasty.

mermaid 🐠

Plot: It is a story about a boy who loves imagining things. One day, he finds a fish swimming in a pond but the fish suddenly turns in to a mermaid. The boy took her home and put her in a tank and showed her to the boy's parents but his parents see a fish swimming in the tank. An organization takes the boy away and tries to teach him that it is a fish not a mermaid by torturing him. Although he was tortured, he still believed that it was a mermaid. So the organization educated him and finally he couldn't  remember how the mermaid looked like.

Ending: At last he forgot how the mermaid looked like and takes the fish back to the pond. Being chased by the organization, he killed himself and he was able to see the mermaid again.

Message: I think at the time Osamu Tezuka made this story, the government sometimes brainwashed people's mind to make it easier for the government to manipulate people. Also, because Tezuka was creative and had a different way of thinking, he may have experienced the struggles of getting someone to understand him.

shinjuku

Today, I went to Shinjuku with my friend and ate some spaghettis at Alice cafe which were delicious. Then, we looked for some clothes but I couldn't find any. (Hopefully, I could find it someday.) I asked my grind if we can take purikuras next but my friend had some homework to do so she left. I am looking forward to play with her again!!!

I'm gonna buy a PC. I've already decided to buy the new MacBook Pro. It has good looks. It will improve my lifestyle totally.

Golden Week

This year I will spend my golden week playing fencing. I have club activities on May 3, 4, 5, and 6! We usually have practices three days a week, but we are going to have them almost every day since it is right before an important fencing match.

I love eating salad for lunch these days! It's delicious and healthy at the same time! What kind of salad do you guys like??

Mermaid

Plot: A boy found a tiny fish and it suddenly turned into a mermaid. He brought the mermaid home and showed it to his parents, whereas all they could see was just a normal fish. The boy was than caught and tortured, eventually the image of the mermaid faded from his mind. He brought the fish to the beach and walked into the ocean. Once again the fish turned into a mermaid. 

End: Everyone saw the mermaid while the boy walked into the ocean, but they just stood and watched. The boy chose his mermaid over that rigid society. Those adults sticked to what they believed even if the mermaid just appeared in front of their eyes. 

Message: All people should have the freedom of thought. The adults grown up in that country lost the ability to tolerant imaginations showed people's belief can be easily shaped by what they see and told. 

Why forecasters, whyyyyy!!!

What a beautiful sunny day!!! So different from what they said in the forecast...They said that it was going to be raining and thundering today🌧

It's a pity since I was about to go shopping with my friends and we went back early so that we won't be affected by the storm🙍Why forecasters whyyyyy!!!

Birthday surprise

Yesterday, I held a birthday party kind of thing for my friend as a surprise. The food and the music was great. We had so much fun. My friend and I met on the first day of university and we soon became super close friends. I'm blessed to have her as a friend and I hope she feels the same way☺︎

I got my problem fixed!

In the last post, I said that I needed help with my Surface. But it turns out that I just didn't know you actually had to record the full sentences, not only the underlined ones. Now I can finally catch up with English Central. Thank you!

Chocolate

Hi, how are you doing?

I love chocolate and one of the shops I like is Max Brenner.
There is a shop in Omotesando hills already, but on April 29(tomorrow!), there is going to be a new shop in Harajuku Laforet and in this shop, you can customize your chocolate pizza and have your favorite topping!
The problem is, I hate waiting in line. I wonder how crowded it will be.

Textbooks

I ordered the textbooks on the 14th of April to send them to my house, and they still haven't come! I called the kobaikai and they said they'll call me back when they figure out long it will take for my textbooks to arrive. However they haven't called me back for almost a week and I am so frustrated now! I will surely call them again if my textbooks don't arrive by golden week.

Main Characters
A boy and a fish (mermaid)

Plot
A boy found a fish at the beach and imagined it was a mermaid. He told the adults about the mermaid but the country he lived didn't allow to imagine so he was tortured to forget such fantasies. Last, he came back home but could not remember the mermaid and goes to the beach again.

Ending
He died, or at least his soul died and he was free to be in his imaginary world again.

The message of this film
It is impossible not to imagine, nor to think something what the government does not like.

Mermaid by Tezuka Osamu

The main characters: the boy and the mermaid

The plot: The boy finds a fish on the ground and lets it go back in the water. Then the fish turns into a mermaid and starts playing around with the boy. He goes back home and puts the mermaid in the water tank. However, his parents says that it is not a mermaid, but just a tiny fish. Then he gets caught by the government which claims that he is seeing something that he should not be seeing. They make him sit on electric chair and try to "cure" him but he still cannot forget about the mermaid. The government does not give up, making him read  all the books until he changes his mind. It looked like he finally forgot about the mermaid. 

Ending: At the very end, he goes to the place where he first met the mermaid and finds a fish again. He walks into the ocean with the fish. The government people watches them turn into mermaids from the cliff. 

Message: I think the message is that we all have the freedom of thoughts and ideas and the government should never take away the rights from people. When the right is taken away, there will not be any creative thoughts and new ideas in the society.

Main characters: the boy and the mermaid

Plots: The boy "found" a mermaid at the ocean? pond so he brought it back home. However, his parents said that there is no mermaid. The boy is taken to the police department and was questioned many times. For every question, the boy answered he saw a mermaid but the police denied his answer and mentioned what he saw was a fish. The boy was taken to another prison and was questioned. This time, he had some physical punishments as well. However the boy wanted to prove that he saw a mermaid for real so he searched many different ways and facts to prove about it. When he returned home and saw the aquarium, he did not find any mermaid; what he saw was a single fish. So, the boy returned the fish back to its original place.

End: I think the boy dreamed as if he could go in the ocean and live with the mermaid because he got sick of the real world where he cannot mention his opinions. Compared to real world, the world that the mermaid lives in seems to be free and open; I though of this idea when the mermaid was jumping in and out of the water. So, instead of living in a clumsy world where any opinions are restricted, the boy maybe wanted to live freely like the mermaid.

Message: All humans have the right to imagine and give opinion of what they thought of. Yes, it might sound ridiculous to some people, especially adults whose innocence has lessened, but not giving their child for a place to develop diversitiesof senses and imaginations are what they should not do. Mr. Tezuka maybe wanted to send out a message that opinions and imaginations should not be forgotten.

The most funny day

 Today in the grammar class, Wakana and I sat next to each other, and somehow we laughed so hard. Especially, Wakana!!!!!  Her laugh was unbelievably loud!!!!!!!!😅😅😅😅😅

It admires nature sceneries in different seasons and enjoys seasonal food.
It is clams' season now and I am going to make clam soup tonight. :-)

Osamu Tezuka's Mermaid

Main characters: a boy, a mermaid, and a police

Summary: One day, a boy finds a fish on the shore. He rescues a fish and fish turns into a mermaid. He brings a mermaid to his house and shows it to his parents. Since no imagination was allowed, he gets arrested by police. The police tortures him and force him to believe there is no such thing as a mermaid. A boy gets exhausted and finally, reaches the point where he can not remember the mermaid anymore. When he escapes from the police and goes back to his house, he only sees a fish. He goes into the sea with the fish and police is looking at them.

What happens at the end: I think the boy killed himself.

Message: I think it is talking about strictly ruled society is killing individuals' imaginations and also their identities.

As I woke up at 5 am, did the club activity in the morning, had lunch(I've been eating udon, or thick white noodles on every weekday since last week) , all necessary factor to fall asleep was made up. I am very sleepy.

When he denied, they tortured him so that he would forget about the mermaid. Yet he didn't, so they forced the boy to read a lot of books. The boy began to forget what the mermaid looked like and ran to his house. There he saw a fish, not a mermaid, so he decided to return it to the ocean. As he let the fish go in agony, the fish turns into a mermaid, and many people, including the police officers who came to capture the boy again, stares at the ocean horizon in awe.

3. What happened at the end
I think the boy committed suicide by going into the water himself because he wished to run away from the world that did not allow free ideas, thoughts, and imagination.

4. Messages given by the filmmaker
This video was created in the 1960s. It was probably the time when parents in Japan were devastated to put their children in intelligent schools through hard examinations, which ended up in making the children think and act in the similar way. Through this movie, I think Tezuka Osamu intended to bring out the issue of children  in Japan being completely the same. He feared the situation of the young people becoming averaged and having no individualities. I believe that the filmmaker wanted to tell us how important and wonderful it is to have our own free ways of thinking.

This coming Thursday, I will be going to the first shinkan and I am really excited. At the same time, I am a bit worried if it will finish before midnight. If it doesn't, then hopefully I could get out telling the reason why I can't stay until the end. Lisa

Brave New World

I'm currently reading a book called Brave New World written by Vintage Huxley and the story is really interesting so far!  I'm guessing that this book is about the vision of the future like the book 1984 (currently reading this too) but obviously, a different kind of vision. Today, I feel like talking about one of my favorite artists. That artist would be, or should I say "these artists, the title of this blog, Supercell. The reason why I say "they" is because the singers change every album, and this is also one of the reasons why Supercell is a favorite. Supercell mainly sings love songs and they are all amazing. They are all touching, inspiring, empathizing. I really hope you would have the chance to here any of these songs.

So today, me and Kaho went to the school's gym orientation and it made me realize, again, how important working out or just being physically active is! Working out does not only helps you to be fit and have a perfect body but it also prevents you from having serious diseases. 

What I learned today (random lol😝)... 1kg is equal to 7200kcal!! So if there is anyone who wants to lose weight... working out alone won't do, you have to pair it with a healthy diet!

Hi everyone,

 I saw Cinderella played by James Lily during the weekend, and I thought it was beautiful but ridiculous. (sorry!) Though I really loved the stepmother and the fairy godmother.
The fairy godmother was played by Helena who also did Bellatrix Lestrange in Harry Potter and I love her.
I am so sad that she broke up with Tim Burton because she was really great in his films, like she was born to be in his film, and she might not appear much in Tim Burton's film from now on.

American Football Game

Yesterday I went to watch the American football game for the first time in my life. It was Aogaku verses Meijigakuin! The OB and OG kindly taught me the rules so I was able to enjoy the game! The game was very intense and exciting that there were several players who got injured:(( but we won at the end so good job to aogaku players:)

Me and two of my friends had planned to talk on the phone this weekend from last Monday, so I 've been excited all week along.
Since my close friends all stay in my hometown area, or the Kansai area, I still sometimes feel sad, but thanks to the technology that we can see each other's faces and talk.😊
When we noticed,  we've already spoken for like 3 hours!

And guess what!?!?!? Mina, Kim, Kaho and I went to play "Tosochu"(something like a tag but with some missions) and we won the game!!!!But since I thought it was a rare chance, I allowed (volunteered😂) people to "pie me" and it was not that bad at all!!!

My face smelled like vanilla and it just was very fun chasing people around trying to get cream on them....:)  (Thank you Kaho for accepting me to wipe your nose with the cream still on my hands💕)

Surface user help me!!

Hi, I finally got my Surface all set this week. But I don't know how to set up the microphone- you know, we need it for English Central to record our voices. And it's the first time my family owned a Surface, so they don't really know how to use it either.  I've watched some videos but I can't complete any of them because I can't to the speaking part. It will be great if  any Surface user knows how to do this setting. Thank you!

My name is Myu and I just joined this class last week. I am actually a sophomore at Aoyama Gakuin, and I know there are way more freshmen in class, but I'm looking forward to getting to know them and I really hope they are for me, too.
I have a younger sister in the same school and department, and a brother in middle school. I also have two adorable cats under the same roof.
I belong to a tennis club, JOYFUL, so if anyone is interested, I will be happy to introduce it to you.

welcome party🎉

Yesterday I went to AIESEC's welcome party! The club members in the grade above weren't the only ones there, graduates of the club was there too! It was a great opportunity to talk with people working  in the society. When some asked us freshmen to imagine what we might look like four years later, it was pretty hard! I don't really know what I want to be or do in the future yet, but I hope both the university and the club will give me a chance to find something that will interest me. It's was a great night!

Today Wakana, Mina, Kim and I went to the Yoyogi park to play tag!!!
I haven't played tag for years so I was very excited about it and we had so much fun😝💓
Just after playing tag, it started to rain and I didn't bring my umbrella so I had to to buy one...☔️
Well, I never have an umbrella with me when it starts to rain so I have tons of umbrellas at home not being used.lol (who has the same issue as me???🙋 lol)

Book Report

I'm having trouble deciding which book to read for IE Core class! I don't know which one to pick from these four:

*A Walk To Remember...My English teacher from high school recommended me this book but I never had the chance to actually read it.
*Animal Farm...I got this book as a gift from my friend in the states but it was too difficult for me when I first read it three years ago.
*The Bluest Eye...My teacher who taught Christianity in high school had us read a part of this in Japanese and I was interested in the rest of it.
*Treasure Island...I read this five years ago but I remember nothing about it.

It's probably going to be the first one...but I don't know yet.

Yoyogi Park

I went to Yoyogi Park to play "Tosochu" which is like a tag with several missions. Kaho and I were in a same team so we ran and hid together for 90 minutes..! It was really tiring but exciting at the same time!

Fried chicken bowl for lunch!

Today Kaho, Wakana, Saya and I went outside of the campus to eat lunch! It only took us about 3-4 minutes to get to the restaurant! Kaho and Wakana had tsuke-men and Saya and I had fried chicken bowl! They were both really really delicious especially for our starving stomach!

Hangul

Korean is a phonography language same as English.
Hangul is like a alphabet for Korean. Instead of abcd they use letters like ㅏㅑㅓㅕ.
It's just impossible to memorize all of the letters' shape and pronunciation in a week!

Last Night

Has anybody ever watched the movie "No Country?"
I had to see it as my homework for the Friday class this week, so I watched it with my friend last night.  However... it was too frightening!!  We both froze just seeing after the first minute or so.💦

It was a night with complicated feelings, but tonight was personally a really happy night😍

How was your day? Mine was kind of stressful. I was so close to being late for my 9 a.m. class because of a delay on my train. I arrived at Shibuya station at 8:46. I had to run as fast as I could just to make it on time. (I literally felt like I was in a marathon 😰) whew! oh well.. I hope everyone had a great day today! See you guys tomorrow! Campus life in Aogaku is  really exciting but meeting up with high school friends was so relaxing and comfortable! We talked about what kind of clubs we are joining and what part-time job we're going to do and all that new stuff ! One of my friend who goes to ICU joined a Frisbee club! I never knew frisbee was actually an athletic  event!

Golden Week

Today I went to lacrosse practice for the first time. It was pretty interesting!! However, I had to leave at 5o'clock!!! To be honest, it's too early for me and I am not confident enough to say that I can live with this kind of cycle......But it's more exciting to do what you love, right???!!!!

It was hard for me to choose a book because I like short stories, like the ones written by Saki, Roald Dahl, Edgar Allen Poe, or fantasies that go on forever.
 Still I did have some ideas and I was thinking titles like

"Holes" by Lewis Sachar
"Howel's Moving Castle" by Diana Winne Jones
though I'm afraid they all might be too childish?
I was very happy to find Kazuo Ishiguro on the suggestions.

IE core class media discussion

 Today's IE Core class newspaper discussion was pretty fun. Everyone had their own opinions towards each articles and I learned a lot from those opinion!!! Thanks everyone who were in my team.

Japan have done a great job to preserve its triadition and history, the inner peace of its past is well balanced with high technology and the modern pace of life. It was a really nice weather today in the morning and noon.
I saw Sakura or Cherry blossom today and I noticed that it was already turning into green. When I saw it last week it was still pink. I actually liked the combination of pink and green too. It is very fast how Sakura falls.
By the way, I love the song "Cherry" by Spitz.

 I can't believe it rained! It was such a beautiful morning!

 Anyway, I saw United Brakes Guitar that Jiawen mentioned. I'm sorry for his guitar but it was kind of funny.
I used to take airlines from O'Hare when I was little, and remember that the United CAs were funny easygoing people compared to the well trained and very polite JAL crews. Still, even on JAL, I always worried if my luggage would comeback safe.

Hi everyone.
Right now I'm having a hard time walking because my body aches all over. Why? Well that's because I practiced fencing yesterday for about four hours and got muscle pains in every single part of my body! There is no wonder my body hurts since I played fencing for the first time in about a month.
So if any of you see me walking weirdly tomorrow in the campus, please be kind and understand that it comes from a severe muscle pain.

When I was in third grade in elementary school, I moved to America and lived in a place called Greenwich,Connecticut. Some may know this place but most people doesn't. It's right above New York. I spent there for about 4years.

 My favorite food is CHOCOLATE<3<3💖💗💘💙💚💜 I'm obsessed with chocolate!!!! Specifically, I like 70~90percent cacao chocolate!! Chocolate may seem junk food, but it's actually very healthy. It can protect the skin from SUN DAMAGES🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞.

 What I like to do is play lacrosse. I played when I was in elementary school for four years and I'm thinking of getting into lacrosse team in this school. There are morning practices, starts from 6:45~9:00. Probably five days a week.
