My voice

As you all know, my voice is somehow not working very well.

My friends laugh all the time when I speak..........

this is the first time I lost my voice but I kind of like this husky voice, It's kind of  interesting listening to  new voice.

So I was waking happily to the class and as I was about to sit down, I hit my pinky toe. Hard. No mercy. It was bleeding. My poor pinky toe. I tried to bend by pinky toe but I can't. It is swollen. ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

💔Cyber Bullying Lecture💔

Today's lecture was presented mainly by Princess Najwa Waheed Naohara.

❤She talked about what the organization she works for, TELL, does.

💔She talked about the types of bullying there are:
Trolling (sending rude messages on purpose),
Sexting,
Outing (spreading information of one's secrets that the bully promised not to share publicly).

❤She also talked about the signs of bullying and it's effects on the victim, and that we need to acknowledge the Autism Spectra, which is the health needs or insecurities and difference in education, between the people we interact with.

❤Another important point she stated to spot and help victims of such bullying, is through listening better to what they say, and noticing their change in behavior if they show it.

I personally have terrible listening skills and rarely seem to show my interests and curiosity in conversations( not that I am not interested or curious!) and the beautiful princess presented me the answer why I am so!(thank you princess!) That we are thinking of what we are going to say next while "hearing" what the other person is saying...subconsciously.Come to think of it, maybe that is why it seems easier to communicate with people by email than by speech...? I admit I am very ashamed of this, and from now on I will "listen"!

❤And that was a bit beside the point. I think that the point of this lecture was to notice the changes in people's behavior and speech, and be aware that 69% of young people were being bullied in 2013, which is a number we should take into account. And if you happen to witness bullying, help the victim out by being not the bystander but the upstander.

Whenever I do something small and someone says the word thank you, I feel relieved. It's a small think but it makes my day. I don't know why I decided to post this as one of my entries but I suddenly remember the day when someone thanked me a lot, like she literally bowed at a right angle, by just picking up the person's umbrella cover. Sorry it is random but I wanted to share this experience because I thought it's heartwarming. Lisa

Today, fifth of May in lunar calendar, is the dragon boat festival, or so called Duanwu Festival in some of Eastern Asia countries.
We eat rice dumpling to celebrate today.
I wonder why so many festivals in Asia use special foods to celebrate.

I wonder why some people can sleep or talk loudly during classes...it's so mottainai!

Paying for education in universities is so expensive. It's like paying the teachers about 3,000 yen after taking each and every class..and yet a number of people are talking and not listening! What a waste of money :(

I just had Red Bull for the first time in my life. I thought that drink is supposed to make you awake or something, but it didn't affect me at all. I feel like it even made me sleepy. It didn't make me fly either.

Right now I take French for the second language, and it is already too difficult for me! Apart from school home homework, part time job preparations, I am given homework by my parents. That is, reading a Japanese book per week, and writing its summary and my comments in Japanese on each book by the end of the week. Another essay due every week, lovely, right? Praying for Manchester and Ari

An explosion that appeared to be a suicide bombing(terror attack) killed at least 22 people on Monday night and wounded 59 others at an Ariana Grande concert. The police raided the home of Salman Abedi, the man they identified as the bomber; he died in the blast. ISIS claim responsibility on this attack. I was really shocked and heart broken when I heard about the news. I've been an Arianator for so long and the fact that Ari's doing everything she can do for the victims/fans made me really proud of being an Arianator. I'll always support her no matter what.
Sending my love and prayers to all the victims of the Manchester attack and Ariana Grande. Stay strong Manchester.

Sorry the title is boring. Anyway, when I came to Japan, I noticed there aren't such services known as take out(?) which you can bring the leftovers you ordered at the restaurant  back home and enjoy it afterwards. I don't know if this directly connects to environmental problem but I have a feeling the amount of garages produced could definitely decrease... ( of course you have to prepare your own tupperware and bring it to the restaurant to decrease the amount of gasses created by making extra containers!) Lisa

Steinbeck and Kafka

I just love the way the American writer John Steinbeck and the German writer Franz Kafka write their stories. I figured they both have a similarity of writing styles. They do not give you a satisfactory ending! There is no solution. They write about the frustration and hardships in life and how they try to cope with those difficulties and obstacles. I find that very intriguing. They make you wonder and keep you on your heels with anticipation of something wonderful happening in the end, only to be disappointed. But that's the beauty of it, isn't it? They make you compare what you have and give you a sense of appreciation for what you have now. They might just be my favorite authors yet.

I went to music festival this weekend and it was brilliant days, I was dying for whole day today by tiredness and feeling exhausted that I was sleeping from 8o'clock till now...

Last night, my seniors at part-time job invited me to dinner after work.
They've told me a few weeks ago that they'll take me somewhere when we work together, and yesterday was the first day.😊

futsal training camp

I went on a training camp(gasshuku) to Gunma Prefecture. It was so much fun playing futsal and making new friends⚽️　The best part of the stay was that the weather was great, not too hot nor humid. It was breezy in the green nature:)

I'm really touched with what they've done. I'm so lucky to have them in my life.

Having a hard time nowadays?

Guess everyone is surprised with the temperature these days. Some of you are also busy with sports, how do you guys cope with having so much to do?How do you manage to keep your physical strength?

I was taking it easy this weekend. Hung out with my high school friends yesterday, and finally finished reading my book for my book report today. So I am finally content.😊

I have a job interview and test for a job as a supplemental school teacher next weekend...I really hope I can get advice from those of you who have already been through it!

URC Spring Live

Yesterday, I went to the URC spring live and it was INCREDIBLE !!!
I've only been to concerts which are held in a large stage like the Tokyo dome, but I loved how smaller stages are really close to the audience.
I can't explain how good it was so I think you guys should go to the winter live !!!

Coconut Tapioca

I saw coconut tapioca drink at one of the convenience stores but I wonder how it  tastes. But, since I love coconut, I think I could enjoy it a lot. Hopefully, other convenience stores would start selling their original coconut tapioca a as well. Lisa

Tired...

My body hurts from fencing practices and sleeping in front of my computer several days in a row. I really need to take a rest on my bed.
Oh and I also have to start working on my assignments a lot earlier than right now. I'm an extremely slow starter and this is not good..

A friend who is major in physiology told me earlier today that being anxious, unable to concentrate  and nervous about math is a phenomenon called math anxiety, and one in five people in the world are suffering from it. I'm probably one of them😂

Waking up early

Waking up early is good but yesterday, I learned that I should worry about my health as well. Being late to class was the biggest mistake I have ever made in my college life. I am really sorry. From this mistake, I will make sure to do some homework and take care of my health as well. Lisa

well, I  have been on a trip to Yamanashi to do wind surfing!! It's kinda like surfing but with a sail🏄‍♀️

Even though I had expected or hoped to be busy since I was spending time as dull as I could do, I am too busy. I have to do homework, club activity, and part-time job. What is worse, my luggage is killing me. Too heavy. I miss the days of doing nothing.

"Read the Air"

I was just thinking about intercultural problems, and the special phrase in Japanese called "read the air," which we rarely hear in other countries, got stuck in my mind.
How and where do we learn to guess the atmosphere? What do you think of people who cannot "read the air"? I think, compared to other cultures, Japanese people are a lot harsher to those who cannot guess what is going on or imagine someone else's feelings.
Without saying, it is really important to take away these kinds of fixed ideas so that we can have smooth and efficient conversations between different cultures!

Interaction

I was really worried how the interaction will turn out but it went pretty well even though we didn't have enough time. I got really inspired by the video Jiawen chose. The video showed 10 skill for having a better conversation. I think communication skills are the most important skills today but at the same time the hardest to acquire. So, I think her video choice was great! It was very interesting to hear many different opinions on various topics!! I can't wait until the next Interaction!!!

Mother's Day

Good evening!
Since everyone is posting about mother's day, I'm going to share mine as well.
I was busy this weekend because of my club camp, so my sister and I secretly went to a flower shop today and got a flower for my mother. She thought we forgot about it so when she saw the flower, she seemed really happy. I'm glad we could surprise her.

i bought my mother a piece of cake for mothers day.

Ladybug

I've noticed that there was a ladybug pupa on one of my plants at home,
but then last night, I saw it emerge.
First it came out with wet wings, two yellow and two long ones with no color.
The long wings dried first and got black.
As it folded it in the long wings, two spots appeared on the yellow outside wings.
Then the yellow wing turned black.
After the whole process which was about four hours,
there was a black ladybug with yellow dots.
I hope it flies away with no problems.

After my part time job yesterday, I went to a flower shop near my house and bought a bouquet of carnations for my mother. I also bought a cake that said "Thank you, Mom" and gave a letter to her. I was glad to see her smiling while reading it.

Every year on Mother's Day and Father's Day, I prepare a letter and some kind of a gift for my parents.

Last night, I went out with my friends from junior high and high school. We were supposed to meet at the east exit, but Shinjuku station was so complicated💨
Anyway, it was a fun and relaxing night.

Fencing Match

On Thursday and Friday, we had a huge fencing competition called the League Match, where we compete as a team against different universities. Out of five games we won two, and ranked 4th in the second league. Most universities, unlike Aoyama Gakuin, had players who entered that school just to play fencing, so the games were really tough.

Also, I missed six classes in those two days, so I need to work hard to catch up!

Family History

I've never met one of my grandpa and we hardly talked about him,
but yesterday I've heard how he lived,
and how his father--so my great grandpa --lived for the first time.
It was an interesting story, and I thought people who were teens just before WWII started were so active. Or maybe teens have great power always.

Today my train arrived late at shibuya station because of the rain,
and I knew that I would be late for my first class but I still tried to ran

5 minutes past 9. Once I entered the room nobody was there! I double checked
the room number and it was the right room! I then realize that I don't have a 9 a.m.
class... now I have to wait until 11 for my class to start 😂😭 I thought I was late,

my seniors

Tonight, I went to my part-time job instead of my co-worker.  Because of that, I missed the circle event, so I was feeling a little down.

But... luckily, two of the seniors I admire were there today!!💖  Working, and talking with them after work made my tiredness disappear quickly and made me feel relaxed.😊  I wish I can work with them more often.

I have attended an event at the United Nations University, it was a conversation with the direct-general of the FAO. He talked about how migration changes things, how food plays an important role, why people keep moving to different areas and what do they want. There were very interesting questions from the audiences, I have encountered lots of enlightening new information in just an hour. I think I'm going to go again. If anyone is interested, let's go together next time!

The film was very quick but very expressive. The facial expression of the boy octopus when he got caught by the guy was very cute and just so amazing how they made an expression for the octopus even though they don't have expressions in real life. The ending was something that makes the viewers want to watch more by showing the next conflict for a little bit. The filmmaker did a great job changing up the angle of the camera so that we could see the view of both sides. But overall, the sound and the background was beautiful💕

For Book Report...

I chose this book called "Because You'll Never Meet Me". It's about two kids; and they get to know each other by writing letters. They write letters to each other, which sounds not so modern. But they both have problems of their own, and it's the reason why they write instead of texting, like other kids.
One is "allergic" to electric things and the other has a pacemaker in his heart.  I read the book about a year ago, and I remember it was a really good story, so I thought I should write a book report on it. Can't wait to read the last part again!

The Golden Week is coming to an end.
I did not do anything special during the holidays except going to the movie theater to see "Fast and Furious 8". It was an exciting movie. I really enjoyed the actions.

Spending time with my family

Usually during vacation, my family and I came to Tokyo to see our relatives, so this was the first GW that I welcomed my family here. This year, I spent 1 day with my father's family, and 2 days with my mother's family.

Yesterday, we went to Ginza to see one of my cousin's musical performance. After that, we found some kind of a festival, so we had lunch there. At night, we stayed at our grandma's house together, and it was such a fun night😊

Now that I live alone, I was really happy to spend time with them and my family.
I wish we had more holidays😥  I can't wait to meet them again.

Third day of golden week is over.

My legs are dead from the fencing practices. Tomorrow we have four hours of practice and I am expecting that my body will automatically stop working from the tiredness. A huge fencing match is coming next week so I am already nervous..!

I went to Asakusa to see my friend today! There were soooo many tourists from all over the world so it was difficult to even walk...Golden week and a sunny day like today was not a great combination for a place like Asakusa...

I'm working on reading the book for my book report. From this assignment I noticed that I have't read any book very deeply, I was just "Reading". Reading into the book makes it a lot more exciting!!!!! From now on, I'm going to use this technique to make it more interesting!!!!

Today

I wrote an email to my favorite Japanese jazz drummer, who also lectures in university. I've once been to his concert at a jazz bar in Kichijoji and had a little bit chat. His performance at that time was so impressive. It was almost storytelling. His touch was literally like Impressionism. I was mesmerized, totally.

First day of my GW

Today I went to see my seniors lacrosse game!!!!!!!  Our team won two whole game by 11-0
My goal from now is to practice the basic skills as much as possible. I noticed when you get out of the field and play game, you get very nervous. sometimes you can't play as well as the practice.

Mermaid

Main characters: the boy and the fish

Summary: The boy imagines a fish as a mermaid, and freely expresses his belief to others who do not share his point of view and criticize him for not following through with common sense.

The ending: I think that the boy chooses to follow his belief and the only way to keep it he must leave   those who do not accept his way of thinking. Therefore, he drowns himself in the sea.

The message: People tend to follow only common sense, that they shut out others imagination and creativity. We should open our minds to new ways of thinking.

GW!

I don't have any special plans for GW like some people do...I'm just going to relax at home, hangout with friends, go shopping, listen to music, clean my room, and read the book for IE:)

 Everyone may be feeling very excited for the golden week!!! But for me, it's not as exciting as I thought it would be. I have lacrosse game tomorrow and other days, practice........  I love playing lacrosse but I also need a time to rest......lol

Tomorrow

Finally it's golden week! I will be visiting my grandparents' house and I can't wait! They told me I don't need to bring anything but I might buy some breads for them to eat... I hope they'll like it! Lisa

Mermaid

Main characters: a boy and the mermaid

Summary: A boy lives in a country where imagination is not allowed. But the boy likes to imagine. And one day, he imagines that the fish he found is actually a mermaid. The word got around, and he was sent to the government to stop his imagination. The government tries everything so that the boy will stop imagining. But he never stopped, he remembered, as long as he could.

message: I think Tezuka Osamu was trying to tell us that it's ok to imagine. It's not something that government should control; we all should have the rights to do so.

Opinion:  In the last, from the way everyone was looking at the boy, I think his imagination won. Also, in the last you can see two figures of mermaid jumping in the ocean. It's hard to decide wether the government told the boy to kill him self or the boy decided that he should die; but I think the boy died, and lived happily ever after with his imagination and the mermaid in heaven.

Plot:

One day, a boy found a fish in the ocean. Later, the fish turned to a mermaid. The boy and the mermaid had fun playing there and so, he took it home. Then, here comes the problem. The boy can only see the mermaid. To others, it is just a fish. He tried to convince them that it is a mermaid but no matter how hard he tried, no one can understand him. The reason why no one gets him is because in the place where the boy lives, it is not allowed to have free imagination. Therefore, the boy was taken to the police and was told to forget about the mermaid. 

Ending:

In the end, he kills himself, because he’s tired of living in a society where there is no right for people to have an imagination. 

Message:

Tezuka wanted to tell us what the situation was like in 1960 and that every person has the right to have a free imagination.

Plot
The boy found a fish at the shore, and the boy had a wild imagination that made the fish appear as if it was a mermaid. He spent a joyful time with her and took her back to his house. He showed his parents his new friend but they only saw her as a fish. Since the government? restricted excess imagination, the boy was confined and tortured until the mermaid returned to a fish, meaning the boy lost his imagination.

Ending
The boy kept is identity and at the end the boy saw the mermaid again

opinion: Tezuka Osamu sketched the situation in 1960 through this animation describing it as a era where people were controlled by the government and restricted of there freedom.

University school life

Keeping up with school work while practicing fencing three times a week and doing a part time job at juku three times a week is pretty difficult...When I do my homework assignments at home, I often end up sleeping in front of my computer and panicking in the morning. I hope I won't do that today...!

By the way it has been eighteen days since I ordered the textbooks online and they still haven't come😵

My Golden Week is tough. How pity I am. But I'm gonna get over it. I should be able to make it.

Today I didn't have PE class so I had class from the 4th period. Asuka, Wakana and I went to Futakotamagawa to see the Beauty and the Beast before the class but the tickets were sold out... 😭😭
So we bought some salads and went to Wakana's house. We watched Cinderella on TV instead. It was my third time to watch Cinderella but it was still amazing. ✨

One day, a boy helped a little fish go back in the sea. It turned into a mermaid, and they spent a fun day together. He took her, and kept her at his house. However, no matter how much he explained, she was just a fish to others. It was because the country prohibited free imagination. The boy was taken to police and forced to forget about the mermaid. He finally gets mentally disordered, runs away from jail, and goes into the ocean with the fish.

<Ending>
The mermaid appeared in front of many people, and the two swam along happily.

<Message>
I think he wanted to tell he was worried that the controlled society may ignore people's rich imagination. Tezuka himself was an imaginitive person, so maybe it has something to do with his own experience.

I think Tezuka wanted to tell us that imagining things are free to do and nobody should get in the way of that.

Plot: The boy saves a fish in the ocean and brought it home, he then began to imagine the fish as a mermaid. However, he got arrested by the police and tried to change what he thinks of the mermaid/fish. The police forced him of what he should be thinking of the mermaid/fish, until one day, could not see the fish as a mermaid anymore. In the end, the boy brings the fish/mermaid back to the ocean.

End: The boy did not let the police or higher person tell him what he should be thinking(if the fish is a mermaid or not) He went with the mermaid in the ocean and live freely in harmony.

Opinion: I think Mr. Tezuka is showing how it's like in 1960 where you can't have your own opinion and how the powerful people dictates what a you should be thinking..

Monday afternoon

I really loved the Mermaid so I watched it again yesterday with my mom and she was crying😂
I think animation is tremendous thing, it's hard to explain why, but author draws thousands of picture on piece of plain paper and combines them to make them look like they are actually moving.
My favorite animation film is Wolf Children by Hosoda Mamoru. Let me know if you want to watch this movie I will lend you the DVD!

Plot
Boy found a mermaid at the sea, then brought her back home to admire it in the tank and show it to his parents, although all they could see was just a normal fish. He was tortured and punished to forget about fish, because he lived in the world where imagination was not allowed.

Ending
He run and escaped back home although he was starting to forget about the mermaid. He brought fish back to sea where they first met. He brought himself into the sea with fish, at the very end, two mermaid was jumping and playing beyond the horizon while policeman are watching from the cliff by the sea.

Message
I think at the end, the imagination became reality. In this world, people often segregated from being different and minority, because majority of people tries to vanish them to make everyone looks the same. Tezuka wanted to tell us how imagination is pleasure thing that only human can, and all the people has right to freely express theirselves.

Mermaid

Plot:   This story is about a young boy who loves fantasies. In spite of his great imagination, the country where he lived had one big rule: Imagination was prohibited.  One day, a young boy saves a fish which transformed into a mermaid. He brought the mermaid home to show it to his parents. However, from parents point of view, they only saw it as a original fish. The boy was then got into prison, and eventually he mind was being manipulated so as to erase his pure imaginary thoughts.  Young boy brought the fish to the beach. In the end, the fish again turned into a mermaid.

End:   All the police and other citizen were watching the boy and the mermaid swimming away from the controlled society.

Message: This movie is trying to tell us that this society is going the wrong way. Wrong way as in a society where individual character is not respected. Especially in Japan, I always feel that "Different" is something Japanese people consider as strange, unusual, or extraordinary, in a bad impression. Different styles of thinking, feeling and acting is something we should respect. In my point of view, having different characters in this world is much more exciting than just plain normal!!!!!
