Obaachan's Garden

This movie is about the filmmaker’s grandmother, Asayo Murakami’s life. She was hit by the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and cut off from her families. After that she moved to Canada for a picture bride, and got many hard experiences there. She was always thinking about her daughters, Humiko and Chieko. In 1945 the atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, where is Asayo’s hometown, and so she fell into despair. At the end of the story she finally met Chieko, who had been believed to be dead of atom-bomb.

I think this movie shows family bonds, and tells us about the importance of keeping on living without giving up.
