Last
week, one of my friends came back to Japan from America, finishing
1-year-study-program. So some gathered and hold a welcome back party for him.
He told us that in America, students were told to smile when they took a picture
of student ID card, and he could only give a smile wryly.
It was surprising a
bit for we Japanese were usually without a smile in a photographic ID card. Though,
I thought that it would be better for Japanese to have a smile, because
expressionless face didn't seem to be charming but looked strict. I wondered
this custom was a traditional rule in Japan.
