Symbol: Emotion. Stanley’s
father and mother are revived by him. They make smiles to him, though, they
have no emotion; it is just a motion by screw.
Conflict: Stanley vs himself. He greatly hesitates to go outside and meet the mysterious girl.
Climax: When Stanley
decides to go out from his house. He has lived for 20 years and it is the first
time for him to step the earth. It is a big change.
Irony: While Stanley
makes his mind to live in the reality, he misses everything. He buried his
parents, and a mysterious girl who he really wanted to be close to, runs away
from him and maybe never comes back.
Theme: The real
world. In this story, Stanley uses various tools to revive or remake
everything, even his parents and a dead bird. Those are designed to move in the
way which he likes; of course they have no emotion. He has lived in his own
world. Everyday he does only what he wants to do and his parents do the routine
work to make his life comfortable. However, he gets bored such a life. Although
there are a lot of troublesome events which sometimes we cannot handle, living
in the real world is more interesting.
