Binta and the Great Idea

Setting- a settlement in Senegal
Conflict- Soda vs her father- Soda wants to go to school like the other kids, but her father thinks it is the women's job to be at home and do house work.
Climax-The children chant together to let Soda have an education
Symbols-The watch represents high society, an admiration to the people in the settlement, but unable to be understood. Rice represents caring and kindness.
Irony- Soda's father kept insisting the he was the one in control, but when the children insisted that Soda be given an education, he lost control of the situation and had to give in.
Theme-Even poor countries with no technology have things they can give to the richer countries, such as humanity and how to be a good person.
