Setting:
I think this story is set during the World War 1 and 2, at the early 1900s. There
were some government oppressions in many countries at that time. The place is
untold, however, the appearance of the house reminds me European country where
is near the sea.
Character:
A boy and his imaginary mermaid (a fish, in fact).
Conflict:
The boy vs adults who are around him (including army and his parents).
Climax:
When the boy finally sees his mermaid again.
Symbol:
Daydream.
Irony:
1.
However the government army tries hard to suppress and brainwash the nations,
it cannot. Freedom of thought which includes daydream is not completely controlled.
Not only it is intangible and very inner; people never forget the things which
are really precious for them.
2.
All adults ruin the boy’s future by oppression although he may have unlimited
possibility. They forget their childhood memories; how they played a world of
fantasy and how it was amusing. The daydream is sort of imagination; and it
will help people being considerate of others, enhance understanding, and widen
their own world. Though, adult deny the boy and even assume that he must be
crazy.
1.
Suppression of freedom of thought and expression.
2.
The things which people lose as they have grown up.
