Binta and the Great Idea

This film is taken place in small village in Senegal, in 2004. This is about a conflict between Soda, Binta's cousin, and her father. Soda wants to go to school, but her father would not let her do so since he thinks that women should stay home and do the housework.
Binta's school play was about the girl who cannot go to school, which was exactly the same as Soda. In the middle of the play, Soda insists to her father that she wants to go to school. Her father could not say anything because everyone around her was on her side. The symbol is bird, which is the symbol of intelligence, and watch, symbol of European culture. This film is trying to tell us that the societies should not restrain people from doing something they want to do, and should not discriminate people by their gender.
