Literary Terms of Mermaid

Setting: around 1960s when the film was made, imaginary country where daydreaming is not allowed

Conflict: the boy vs. the society, the boy vs. himself

Climax: when the boy ran away from the prison and saw the fish not as the mermaid

Symbol: the sea symbolizes the freedom, the mermaid symbolizes the freedom of imagination, the vivid color symbolizes the tense

Irony: at the end when the boy changed to the merman and the people who were denying the existence of mermaid saw that

Theme: this film apprehensions the luck of imagination which is caused by the control of the country, I think this film wanted to show the importance and the freedom of the people's imagination
