Mermaid

Literary terms of Mermaid

Setting: in a foreign country near the sea, in the past.
Conflict: a boy against himself.
             a boy against society.
Climax: the boy saw the mermaid again in the sea and he also turned into a mermaid.
Symbol: the sea is a symbol of freedom.
mermaid is a symbol of dream and imagination.
the government is a symbol of ruler that force their opinion on everyone.
Irony: the government tried not to let a boy think about mermaid, but that had an
opposite effect on him, and he finally became a mermaid.
Theme: I think the theme of this story is the fear for losing free mind, and importance
             of having our own thought.
