About my weekend and 2 questions

Hey guys, how are you doing?

I hung out with my friend from high school in Shibuya and Harajuku last Saturday, which was lots of fun. Even though I was tired from walking, I totally had an awesome time with him. I hope you guys had a good weekend as well.

By the way, I have two questions to you guys today.

It's been getting hotter and hotter these days, right? I'm worried about how hot it will be in Tokyo because I've never lived here in summer. Certainly every summer, it's hot in my hometown, Akita as well. However, I think the one in Tokyo will be much hotter than that of Akita. So my first question is, "How can you deal with the heat in summer?"

When it comes to my high school in summer, no air-conditioning system was installed in any classroom, which was really hard for me. There were two electric fans in each classroom, but I couldn't concentrate on classes. Every student in my high school had to put up with such a tough time during the hot summer. But now, this is one of my memories in my high school days. So my second question is, "Do you have any special memory in summer?"

Symbols: Two octopuses stand for true love and close relationship. A man stands for how greedy human beings are, and obstacles to love. A seagull stands for unexpected things and obstacles to love. The location in this story stands for how complicated the world is.

Irony: Two octopuses managed to escape from a man, and it seemed that they would be happy forever. However, their happy life didn't last that long because of a seagull.

Theme: It is important not to give up dealing with them when we confront difficulties. True love and close relationship possess strong power to overcome difficulties, but we should always be careful not to break up the relationship.

finally， I finished reading Lord of the Flies, and I still can not understand it thoroughly, so I will search some info about william golding and see the movie of the book.

My holidays

Hi, everyone! Did you have a good time this weekend?

I spent this weekend inside my house.
I usually go to somewhere by train weekend.
But I didn't so because I had many things to do.
Reading book, Media Discussion paper and so on.
I have little time left for Book Report due but I don't finish reading book.

About Oktapodi and answering a few questions

It's very interesting to read everybody's post about the Oktapodi homework. Each person slightly has different answers on each literary terms. I think there is no practical answer for this short film and there are different irony and themes that my classmates thought of that I couldn't notice. Through Oktapodi, I learned many nice ideas from several aspects.

Now, I would like to answer a few questions from this week's posts!!

To Chie
My favourite movies are Ghibli films in general. Almost all the stories have a lesson throughout the story which makes me think and the characters like Totoro and Jiji are adorable with strong impact!

To Takumi
I'm going to write a book report about a book called Fahrenheit 451. The content of the book was quite heavy and I couldn't figure out the end until I finished reading it.

To Azusa
I don't have any annual family event, but I think it's nice to have one!! I guess it's a good opportunity to talk with people you don't meet often like relatives.

To Mikako
After I returned home today, I did all the housework instead of my mother doing it. I wish my mother relaxed!

To Sayaka
My hobby is playing badminton! I was in the badminton club when I was in highschool. I like to play it just for fun rather than participating in competitions.      

Training camp

Hi everyone! How was your weekend?
I spent so much fun time with my circle members!!!
Actually, I went to a training camp of a tennis circle called "Alice". It explains why I carried some huge baggage on my Friday's classes.
I had couldn't decide to join the circle or another circle but I've decided to join the tennis circle finally the end of the training camp and signed up already! :)
The training camp was amazing! I played tennis a lot and made a noise till late night! My parents are very strict about curfew and I usually have to go home early, so it was fun for me to be with my friends till late night :)
I belonged to tennis club in my junior high and high school, so playing tennis is a good pleasure for me.
Do you guys have some hobbies? If you have, please tell me and also if there are some classmates who like playing tennis, let me know!!

a relaxing Saturday afternoon

 

Hi everyone!! Did you enjoy your weekend? I would like to talk about a place where I went yesterday.

 

 

 

This place looks like a house, but it is actually a cafe. My parents took me here by car and it's located in Higashi-Koganei. When I arrived here, I was astonished by the trees, plants and the nature around. The cafe's name was called, "Oven Mitten Cafe". When I entered, I smelled cookies and cakes baking which made me hungry although I've just had lunch.

 

 



On the menu, there were mainly several kinds of sweets, tea and light meals. It was very hard to decide, but I finally chose a plate with three kinds of sweets with tea. The orange one was an orange tart, the white one was a cold nuts dessert and the brown one was a pound cake. All the sweets were handmade at the cafe and they tasted sweet and wonderful!! It was a bit expensive; however, I think the taste was worth the price. While eating, I could see a nice view of nature from the window that relaxed me. I was able to forget the time while I was there:)

Sumo, book, and mother's day

Hello everyone!

The sumo tornament for May started today.
In fact, I've just finished watching it. It was really exciting and I can't wait to see
what will happen tomorrow. What was surprising for today is that Harumafuji lost.
He acctually is one of the three yokozunas and his opponent was Yoshikaze ranked
komusubi, which is a lower rank than the yokozuna. It is kind of unusual for a yokuzuna
to lose on the first day of the tornament. I hope he does better tomorrow.

Other than that Endo got his mage done for the first time, and it's still hard to call it a
prominent mage but I think it's pretty decent. He won today's bout showing his ambition
to the audience. His sumo is very stable. He keeps his waist nice and low enabling him to
execute a great tachiai. No wonder why he gets a lot of attention from the media.

Today I also finished reading The Great Gatsby for the book report. Pretty much enjoyed
it and now I'm thinking what to wright about it. It might be a good idea to read it again and
see if I conceive something different about it. Yeah, I think I'll do that.

Oh right, it's mother's day today. I usually cook dinner with my brother and sister on this day
and I think that's what I'll do today, too. I should get on it before I forget.

Mother's Day

Today is mother's day!
I baked cookies for my mom yesterday when she was out and I placed them on the table this morning before everyone got awake.
My mom looked very happy and that made me very happy too.

Mother's Day

Hi, how are you doing?  I'd like to answer Azusa's question, "Do you guys have any annual family event?". Our family doesn't have a particular annual event, but we always celebrate our birthdays, Christmas , New years and my parent's wedding anniversary together. Actually, my parent's wedding anniversary was yesterday,so we went to eat dinner at a restaurant today. We went to eat Italian ,which is my favorite food. It was so good.

Tomorrow is Mother's Day . What are you planning to do, or  what did you do for your mom o Mother's Day in the past? I'm planning to make dinner for my family tomorrow. I don't cook much,so I'm afraid if I'm able to make dinner for my family. I haven't decided what to make yet,but I'll try my best.

Irony : When the seagull unexpectedly carries off the male octopus.

Theme : True love can be distracted but if you both work together and fight through hard circumstances you will make it.

reply to annual family event

yes , I have annual family event, sept. and oct. every year is the time for eating hairy crab. The hairy crab caught in Yangcheng Lake in Jiangsu province which is next to Shanghai is considered to be the most delicious one. every year we drives there to taste the delicious crabs. It is about  2000 yen per hairy crab. fresh crabs, well steamed, under the shell is crab roe which is the most tasty part and is my favorite, dip the crab meat into the sauce consisting of minced ginger and vingar before eat. and warmed yellow rice wine makes a good beverage while eating the crab. I can eat 4 to 5 crabs one time! eating the crab takes long time, so it create  a good opportunity for us to chat. while I thought of the crab, my mouth waters.

The answer to Azusa's question.

My family usually has a Christmas party on Christmas day.
And depending on the year, we sometimes fly to Canada and celebrate Christmas with
our relatives. However, this hasn't happened for a while. I hope it does soon because
personally I prefer celebrating Christmas in Canada. I don't mind Christmas in Japan, but
there really is a cultural differense and you can learn how North America and other countries
make much of Christmas in comparison to Japan. Getting to know the authentic Christmas
and where the whole idea of Cristmas consists in will probably be an interesting thing to do.

Anyways, that's essentially my family's annual event.

Book report

I read "Treasure Island" for the book report. As you think, it's a story about a journey.

Young Jim Hawkins discovered a map that will lead him to the Treasure Island, but a lot of things happen to him...

I haven't finished reading this book yet. I'll watch the movie and read the book translated into Japanese to compare to this book written in English in terms of how each words are used, so I have to finish reading this book immediately.

My dog

Guess what the black thing is… Well, obviously, this is a dog, haha.

His name is “Atom”. a Dachshund.（Named after the character of famous animation “Tetsuwan Atom”） Actually this dog was given my family by my aunt, so he named it, not me or my family.

He is 13 or 14 years old now, so he’s not young. Because of that he’s always sleeping recently… But he still has good appetite and eat a lot of dog foods.

The reason why he is in the back of couch, is probably because of its species. Originally dachshunds were hunt dog for badgers. So I think because of that instinct, he likes dark and small spaces.

Also he likes to be in cages or under the table or even under the carpet! 

On May 5th

On May 5th, I went to Naisuimenmatsuri which is held in Kanagawa prefecture.
There we could see about 1,200 Koinobori swimming in the sky.
A lot of cars made line and there was so crowded with many people.

I go there once every year. It's like an annual event for my family members and relatives.
We enjoy the Koinobori over a tea!

After I finished my literary terms of Oktapodi, there was a suggestion that showed a lot of different animations that were made with CG or a continuation of photographs. I spend like hours watching so many animes on the golden week and found some very interesting clips.
I'll introduce two of them here.

"The maker" which took me to a mysterious world.

Book report

A few days ago, I completed reading a novel for the book report.

I choose “The Great Gatsby”. The reason why I choose this is, my father had read this novel in his college years so he recommended it to me.

At first, I thought, “Oh, this is a short novel.”  but soon I started reading, I was overwhelmed by a difficulty of the novel… I mean, many unknown words, and phrasing is rather poetic. You have to be careful to understanding each sentences. In the past, I didn’t really read a lot of novels. I like non-fiction books better so I’m not familiar with this kind of novel writing style.

But somehow, I managed to read it through the end. Now I’m planning to watch the movies and finding information about the author, F. Scott Fitzgerald.

I’m not sure whether I can make a good book report… But I’ll do my best anyway.

Yeah, I love eating too. Earning a money to have better meals is good idea. But before that, I think one thing you can do also is find a good restaurant, that is cheap, but delicious, right?

Setting: the time is during the day, location is in the warter and in a residential area.
Conflict: a character is in conflict with human.
Climax: as his girl friend was caught at the beginning and as the truck dove in the water.
Symbol: (1)being disturbed by obstacles such as human and bird is symbol of toughness of love. The place things happened is symbol of the unexpected world and his life which has tons of obstacles and nuisances.
Irony: his effort didn't pay off. He was captured by human and bird in the end.
Theme: it is not easy to obtain what we want.

Eating

Eating is one of  my pleasure.
I love eating. I love food. I eat all the time.....!!!

I love all kinds of taste, especially spicy ones.

But there is a problem.

Money.

Good food have the tendency to be expensive.

Thing is a tragedy for me.....

I have to work and earn more money...!

The Simpsons

Me and my family are hooked on "The Simpsons". Do you know "The Simpsons"? It's a TV cartoon that's just really funny, and also ironic. The main character is Homer Simpson. Homer is a bold stupid man has a blue haired wife, Marge, and three children. Bad boy Bart. Intelligent second year student Lisa, and baby Maggie. Great weekend

 Hope you have all had a lovely day and are enjoying the extra long weekend.

For me, it was very nice. I met one of my relatives to talk about my school. It was my first time to see him. I was kind of nervous, but he was really kind. The main reason I met him was that we are going to invite American couple to Tokyo and Yokohama who are working with my relative. He asked me to have a conversation smoothly. It's going to hold at the end of this month. I'm very excited to meet new people.

I realize I have tons of homework to do due Friday. I'm suppose to enjoy this beautiful day though!

Golden week

Hi, how are you guys doing? During golden week, I meet with my friends from high school and hanged out in shibuya. We went to karaoke and danced and singed. We were in the dance club so whenever we go to karaoke we actually dance a lot than singing. After going to karaoke, we went to eat nabe. We talked about our school life in university. Everybody seemed to have fun at college. I feel relaxed being with my friends from high school, so I can't wait to see them again.

Going out with Karina

Last wednesday, I had only 1 lecture, so my mother, my dog, and I went out for a walk for longer time than we used to do. My dog, Karina, likes to go outside, so when she hears the word ‘Sampo’, she literally hops really high. It’s very funny to see.

My mother and I usually go out with Karina individually, but today we 3 went out. Come to think about it, this may make her being excited. Karina didn’t walk but run very fast! As we had pretty much time for going out, we ran very long distance. After 3 or 4 minutes my mother and I became tired, but Karina didn’t. She went back and forth for countless time and then we all became tired. After a while we went our way home.

 

 

At home, we took a nap and ate dinner.

Today the dinner tasted more delicious than ordinary days.

Movie

Sayaka! I was moved by your dog's story and want to say "Rest in peace" to your dog.

Several days ago Mikako asked a question, "What do we do to reduce our stresses?" For me, to talk a lot with my friends and watch movies.

During this holiday I watched 4 movies. As I said before, one of those is "The Amazing Spider-Man", and another is the second one. The others are "Back to the Future 3" and "Meitanteikonan".

I like famous foreign movies like "Harry Potter","Spider-Man", and "Pirates of the Caribbean". Almost all the Disney and Universal animations are great.
Especially, in terms of "Harry Potter", I watched all the series of it at the theater and bought a set of the DVDs. Next July its attraction are going to be opened in Universal Studios Japan. I really want to go there~:( <3

Setting: The film takes place at a town faced to the sea around somewhere in Europe. It's around noon.  More particularly, at a shop that sells octopus, and in the buyers truck.

Conflict: Mainly the two octopus and the man. But only at the first, the conflict is the male octopus and the man. Watching towards the end of the film I can predict that the conflict will next change to the female octopus and the bird.

Climax: The climax was where the two octopus barely escaped from the truck and was running(swimming) away from the truck.

Symbols:
The two octopus/ true love
The tank/ a restraint(to their love)
The thinness of the rope(the one they grabbed on around the last part)/ the symbol of how barely they were able to escape.
The truck and it's speed/ how the two octopuses hearts were thumped up, because they were almost able to get away from man, but not, and the cycle of this.


Irony: when the man dropped into the sea because he was too focusing to the octopuses.

Theme: True love is always obstructed with some kind of obstacle.

Freshman Meting at Tokyo University of Agriculture

On Sunday, I went to an event related to the ESS (English Speaking Society) circle. It was called the Freshman Meeting and it was held at at Tokyo University of Agriculture. Many students from other universities who belong to ESS gathered to talk with each other. We were devided into several groups and each group had about six people. All the members in my group came from different universities. I met a girl who even came from Gunma prefecture. Before the discussion, we introduced ourselves and then we talked about wide variety of topics such as the things you started or want to start after entering university and the reason deciding to join ESS. I enjoyed talking with people who I don't have opportunity to talk with usually. Also, listening to their university life was new to me and I got to know the difference between my own life which was quite interesting. I had a wonderful time talking with new friends and I think communicating with people in English both has the element of learning and having fun.
 

Frozen

I watched the movie, ''Frozen'' with my friend yesterday.
I had heard from many people that it is a good movie and I was longing to watch it!
All the songs were very good the story was very touching.
I like the song ''Do you want to build a snowman?'' the most. Anna is very cute and I like how she gets older as the song goes.
Also since it was a story about siblings helping out, it was very heartwarming to me because I also have siblings.
I want to watch it again if I have a chance.
It seems that many people have already seen it but I recommend you to see it and especially to people who have brothers and sisters.

I didn't return to my native place, Shizuoka.
My highshool students return to Shizuoka in most cases.

Tonight my friends will stay at my home.
We enjoyed shopping in Shibuya and Harajuku.
Afterthat we went to the karaoke shop.
1F of my apartment building is the karaoke shop.
I had a very good time today!

How I like to spend my golden week

 Good evening everyone!

I hope you all are having a great golden week!

 I am spending mine meeting my new friends and also my friends from high school.

Yesterday, I went to my friend's friend's 20th birthday party. The birthday girl was not really a friend of mine, but somehow I was invited. She was my friend's friend, so we were able to get along very well quickly. I was happy that I made new friends from other universities. 

 Today, my friend from high school is coming over to my house for a sleepover. She brought me some  ice-cream in six different flavors! Her recommendation was the earl-grey tea flavored ice-cream and it tasted great! If anyone else is looking for a good ice-cream, I highly recommend you to eat the earl-grey tea flavored ice-cream from baskin robbins!

Sad Story: My Dog

Look at this picture!!
He is my pet dog named Log, who is absolutely cutest dog ever!!!♡
He is 8 months old, and 22 kilograms now. He came our house when he was 1 months old.

These are the pictures when he came our house.
He was tiny sweet puppy!!
Before he came our house, we had raised another dog whose name was Log. Yes, the two dogs have the same name.LoL

Log (which is the first dog that we raised) passed away of cancer January 2013. He was 12 years old and I was so sad because I had been with him since I was 5 years old and loved him very much. I cried every day and every time I saw the empty doghouse.
We talked about our sadness over and over again, and we finally decided to raise another dog. It was not easy decision for us to raise another dog because we didn't want to lose our pet anymore and also we didn't want to forget about Log.
But we realized that we were always looking for him, and when noticed he was not there, we felt that there is a gaping hole in our heart.
And when the dog came our house for the first time, we all thought that he looked like Log!! So we decided to name him Log not to forget Log who passed away.
And every time we call Log, we remember him.

Rest in peace.

Irony : The octopuses somehow managed to flee from the man, however the male octopus soon get caught by the seagull.

The theme of this film, I think, is how love could be a strong motivation.
Because the octopi love each other they do not fear to risk their own lives.

An amusing event that I had recently?

Actually, I used to go to a cram school during junior high and near the end of
high school.

Yesterday I went out with the teacher and had dinner.
He is very generous and intelligent that I learn something new every time I go out
with him.

The funny thing is after we came back, I accidentally fell asleep.
So here I am at my teachers place having a cup of coffee making a new post.
And this is essentially the fun event I had recently.

1) in the first scene, the two octopi enjoyed the embrace with each other in the aquarium, suddenly a hand reaches from above, get them separated and takes away the female octopus from the male one.
2) in the last scene,  the two octopi finally get rid of the driver and take a rest on the clothes line, another peril happens that the male octopus is captured by a seagull.

7) theme: the way of love is full of obstacle and perils and is not smooth.

A satisfaction trip to shibuya

Since I have entered this school, almost everyday has been a little "trip" for me.

Spending more than one hour in the train, get to know new friends, learning something new everyday.

I think this could be  expressed as a "trip".

I was exhausted day-to-day at the begging of this semester.

However I found out this exhaustion was part of a "satisfaction".

I think  a true satisfaction is reached only  if you try hard, get tired, but still keep going on and on.

My english is still immature, and because of this, it disables me to express some of my feelings sometimes.

I must study hard.....!

Spider-Man

Since I entered Aoyama Gakuin University, I've had little free time because I took part in the dance club activities and had to do a lot of homework. Finally I can have a rest during this Golden Week holidays! Yesterday after school I watched “The Amazing Spider-Man” (not the second one shown at theaters now) in my home, it was so exciting that I couldn't fall asleep last night. LoL As I said before, I luckily saw a press conference of “Spider-Man” in Singapore and there were the main casts of the film’s characters, which made me crazy about “Spider-Man” than before.

Tomorrow I’m gonna go to watch “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” at a theater, well...I just can’t wait! Besides I’ll eat out, go shopping, and visit a hot spring resort. I’m looking forward to tomorrow, during the Golden Week holidays I have to do a lot of homework, though. Hahaha...

Anyway I hope all of you will have grate holidays :) 

By the way, during the Golden Week holidays what are you going to do or what did you do?

Literary terms - Oktapodi

I like the film, “Oktapodi” we were given as an assignment, since it’s humorous and cute but educational as well.

The setting of this film is an European country along the ocean during the day in summer.

The point of view is omniscient; this film is a story with emotions of a number of characters, two octopuses and a restaurant delivery man.

The conflict is a group of animals, the two octopuses making love to each other vs. a person, the driver taking the female octopus to a restaurant to cook. The male octopus is trying to save the female octopus to stay with each other.

The climax is that the driver was so engrossed in catching the octopuses that he didn’t look forward and fell into the water.

The two octopuses symbolize true love, the driver stands for people, and a car he drives is our busy and difficult society.

The irony is that no sooner had peace prevailed among the two octopuses and they thought they could spend quality time together than a sea gull captured the male octopus.

The theme is that true love is the most important thing under any circumstances.

"Oktapodi" Literary terms

Here’s my thought on the video “Oktapodi” literary terms.

The setting of this film is, I think whole incident were occurred in somewhere of European country, relatively modern period, and of course it was occurred in daytime.

The conflict is（d）, a group of animal（octopuses）vs. one person/animal （a man and a bird）form.

The climax is, when the driver missed driving and fallen down to the sea.

I think the symbol would be the car. Throughout the film, the car was unstable and sometimes controlled so badly, so it may be a suggestion of our unstable and busy world.

Irony thing is, One octopus was finally able to help his or her partner from human by a lot of effort. But despite the effort, the partner was soon captured by a bird again. 
The theme would be something like this, the power of love, difficulties are continuous thing.

Guitar Picks

Do you know what it is?  Well, obviously, this is guitar picks.

Playing the guitar is my hobby and I’ve collected a lot of picks.（This is just some of them）

Picks usually costs around 100yen, they usually made from celluloid（plastic）, and the sounds of guitar varies greatly depending on the pick that you’re using.

As you can see in the picture, there’re a lot of shapes in picks. The picks on the top is called “Thumb Pick” and this pick is supposed to put on thumb. 

So, I think you understand picks are very important when you play the guitar, but what about when you’re in the situation like this,

“Hey, I heard you play the guitar, right?. Show me your playing, here’s the guitar.”

I actually had this kind of situation before, and there were no picks, of course. 

So instead I played with my fingers but eventually I wanted a pick. Then I thought about things in my wallet…, coins!

As I tried different coins, I found that 1yen is the most suitable thing for pick substitute. 500yen and 100yen are too big and hard to play.

Next time, I’ll try a stone as a pick substitute… No, just joking, haha.

Weekend

this weekend I don't have any part time job to do, and I want to have a good rest, pay visits to some of my dear friends with who I haven't contacted since the new semester. last but not the least, I should begin to deal with book report and really english. what a isogashii weekend.

Golden Week

Hi! Today,I talk about Golden Week.
Last year, I had to study very hard to pass entrance examinations. So, I didn't have any plan of Golden Week. It was very hard for me because I knew that my friends from high school  would have a good time. I still remember I was envious of them. But, I am a university  student now. So,I will be able to spend time with my friends. Indeed, I am going to participate in freshman meeting as ESS activity on Sunday.However, I don't have other plans on Golden week... Do I have to study again? Too bad!!
