Marmaid

I think that the main characters of this story are the boy and the marmaid, but maybe marmaid is something like notion. The marmaid implies imagination. The boy wanted to imagine the wonderful world forever. However, people think that only to imagine can be dangerous as it doesn't create anything, so they prevent him from doing like that. The fear of people around him does make sense, but it went too far. Finally he decided to escape from real world and live in the country of imagination. I guess Osamu wants to make us know that to imagine moderately can make our life comfortable.
