I found on the web a very intellectually
appealing topic in line with this week's
theme.
"Agree or disagree: National identity is
becoming less important in today's global
society"
Some radical cosmopolitans argue that the
concept of nation in itself is out of date
and should be abolished. This kind of idea
maybe rather tilted to communism, I totally
disagree with. I think national identity is
a indispensable, vital part of ethics even in
this grobal era. Without this identity, we
would not act as we do now, I believe. Na-
tional identity teachs us to act wisely in
many ways, in the forms of respect for tra-
dition, altruism, love for homeland and so
forth. Above all, a sense of belonging to
national is very important.
Can we have a sense of belonging to the en-
tire world(not to a particular, specific
country), and,if any, with the help of it,
can we practice "love of one's neighbors"?
At least personally, the answer is "no".Such
a cosmopolitan community is too abstract and
therefore we would not act according to it.
We need more easily visualizable community
for this perpose, I believe.
