Come in and Blog On!

2023 Welcome to your IE 3 class blog. The object of this class project is to log in and write your comments, web links, answers to questions, and your questions to others at least twice a week. It's fun and you can include pictures or graphics. Keep it original, helpful, and interesting. Don't forget to spellcheck your work before publishing. Also, when you create your user name, please use your real first name, in Romaji (ex. Ryuki, Mari, Lisa, etc.) so that we know who we are communicating with. Enjoy, and Blog on!

environment―Whether or not the use of nuclear power should be expanded

I often hear it said that the use of nuclear
power should be banned, and most of the arguments
of this kind are based on its safety and disposal
of nuclear waste. I do not dare to deny that there
is any truth in that, but it seems to me that the
use of nuclear power is the only practicable solution
, the following three compelling reasons taken into
consideration.

First, with so-called BRICs emarging especially in
terms of economy, electricity demand is escalating,
and it would be almost impossible to meet their
demands without nuclear power.

Second, some people argue that renewable energy such
as solar power and wind power should be thought as
a solution to the energy problem, but at least given
the present state of things, it is far from sufficient
to meet the existing energy demands. I read in some book
that wind power generation is so unriliable and in effi-
cient that in order to satisfy one city's energy demand,
it needs vast space for wind power generation plants, and
surprisingly enough, the necessary space is equivalent to
that of the city itself. How space-consuming it is.

Third, price of oil is getting higher and higher, and it
is so fluctuating that it is unwise to rely almost soley
on it as energy sources.

In conclusion, I think that although safety and disposal
of nuclear waste are no trivlal concerns, the use of nuclear
energy seems to me the only viable solution to the energy
problem( and to the energy crisis predictable in the near
future). Other ways of power generation have serious problems
in terms of efficiency, neither of which nuclear power generation
cannot be accused of.
