OTAKU!!

When I used to live abroad, I hated when people mentioned about “Otaku and Anime” culture about Japan. I've been living in a foreign country throughout my life, so like ten or more years ago it was ‘Play station and Nintendo is soooo cool!!’ However two years ago, my friend came up to me and said ‘Do you read Anime!!’ (At that time European people didn't have the correct knowledge towards Anime, and Anime usually meant adult comic books) I thought about my home country as a shame, just if I could be English!!
Now I've grown up, I respect there are different ways of life and there are hobbies and interests out there that I can hardly imagine about. Yes, as keiyu said, rather than having no interest, no hobby, nothing that can drive you in life, specializing in a certain field such as otaku culture is probably a good thing for them.
Although otaku - 2D and anime is seen weird (no offence) this is because it’s only a small percentage of the total population is “into” otaku. If the majority, over half the people in Japan had there hobby and interest in some sort of otaku culture, the minority, the non-otaku people are seen as the “weirdoes”. The balance between the majority and minority, the popular and the geek is in fact a non-controllable issue.
But let me tell you, I’d like to try going to a maid café! Anyone want to go with me? Thanks for reading!
