The Lost Thing

I’m going to write about “The Lost Thing.”

At the beginning of the story, a man was collecting bottle tops at the beach, he found a strange creature, which no one seemed to notice. He called it ‘The Lost Thing.” Then he talked to it and soon they became friendly. Later he started to look for the place that the creature came from. Although it was very difficult, finally he could find a special place where creatures like “The Lost Thing” are living happily.

I think the thing that is lost is interaction. In this movie, people at the beach seemed to concentrate on doing their work and have no interest in other things, inclu ding “The Lost Thing.” Also, at the man’s house his father was watching TV and mother was reading a newspaper. So they weren’t interested in the creature and what he was talking. That is, today people were absorbed in their work or hobby so much that they are forgetting the importance of interacting with other people. Probably Shaun Tan wants us to recollect it.
