New Year's Day

On every New Year’s Day, my family and my cousin’s family gather at the house of my grandparents on my mother’s side. We go there from morning. It takes about five minutes by bicycle from my house to their house. In this year, we went to their house, too.

After everyone had gathered, we toasted and ate breakfast. There was Osechi-ryori which my grandmother made. I especially like a rolled omelet mixed with fish paste and a slice of yellowtail broiled after being soaked in sweetened soy sauce. I also ate zoni. They were very delicious.

After eating breakfast, we paid the first visit of the year to a shrine. There were many people. Then, I went to shopping to buy a pair of new boots. I found nice one and my father bought it for me. So, I was very happy.

We stayed at my grandparents’ house all day. On that night, we ate shabushabu and sushi. They were also delicious. That day was very fun and I could relax at my grandparents’ house.
