In this story, the main character is a boy has a create imagination.
The story begins a scene the boy saved a fish and imagined the fish is a mermaid. They loved each other everyday, but he were not allowed to imagine that by his circumstances because his country forbad the a vain dream. One day, he was taken to an establishment, then he was forced to forget his daydream over and over. After all, he could not forget his mermaid, then he went to his home to see his mermaid. However, when he saw the fish, he could not recognize the fish is the mermaid. When he was discouraged and went to the sea, he saw his mermaid in the sea, then, he went to the sea deeply to followed his mermaid.
I thought the theme of this story is freedom of thought. If we banned the free of imagination, we are silenced our of thought by the violent people. Osamu Teduka wanted us noticed this idea, and how important we have freedom of thought.
