Who
There were small varmints who were seen in the green-covered plains and then slightly larger varmints who dragged in the grey, tall, and very unnatural buildings that destroyed the green plains.
What is happening
The varmint that we follow in the story manages to secure a branch from a tree before it dissolves into grey dust in front of them. The larger varmints finish dragging in the dark eerie city and start to work in an environment where everyone seems sick and dirty. The main little varmint adapts to its new surrounding but still holds on to his longing for its lush green past. He starts to take care of the branch he secured and upon one of his trips to fetch water for his plant he sees green orbs all over the city, that start to grow every passing day. Each day the larger varmints start to get more and more ill and eventually his own plant starts to wilt. A doomsday comes and all the large varmints start to collapse, the sky turns red and the buildings start to crumble. This was due to The orbs eventually growing so big it actually becomes an organism that floats, has tentacles and saves the small varmints that give them a new home representing the old green plains they used to live in.

It seems like the current situation going on in our society now so I would say it is happening in the near future.
Where
It first takes place on grassy plains then in an industrialized gray city.
Why is this happening
The larger varmints brought in this toxic environment and only the small varmints who got their homes taken away get salvation because the one varmint tried to bring the green environment back.
How does it end
It ends with the giant green orb jellyfish floating away from the eerie city and saving the small varmints, consuming them into their body that looks like the old green plains they used to live on. leaving behind the larger varmints and the city it destroyed.
