This is an update on my last running blog. After uploading that blog entry, I suddenly started losing feelings towards running. I dreaded stepping on the machine, my legs felt heavier, and I ended up switching to walking.
A couple days after, I decided to push myself again. I start my run with a quick 5 minute warm up per usual, going 8 km per hour. I usually dread this part, but for some reason that day.... the warm up felt different. I was not struggling one bit, and my legs still felt like feathers. Not one part of my body was in pain. I had no side stitches. I was practically in heaven.
That's when I realised, I was high. Very, very, high. More specifically, I was getting runner's high.
For those of you who don't know, runner's high is a short-lasting, deep euphoric state following intense exercise. You kind of lose all thoughts, and running feels like an easy task. Legs are moving freely, and your breathing feels natural. I have been wanting to experience this for the longest time, and my dream finally came true.
It was for sure one of the best runs I've ever been on. I have heard that professional long distance runners (marathon runners) experience this every time they run. No wonder they can run for hours every single day.
This got me thinking, how if this is what drugs do to the human body, I can see why people can become severely addicted. Not that I'm promoting drugs. But it really was an eye opening experience.
