Order and Chaos

Tonight we dine like Kings

hold your head up high

though the sirens ring

Fear not the poison in the feast

congratulate All mighty, the Beast

Steps heavier down the street

For the Cross control your feet

whisper Rebelion ear to ear

oblivion covers yours to clear

Virgin white an ocean of grief

lights off a blood red handkerchief

one last thought before the Guillotine

a Massacre of Dreamers is complete

Swallow you worries whole

for here is another War

name Order the march of workers

cry Chaos for eyes of observers

Death to the nation forged Liberty

Life to the bombardment of Anarchy

Funny realizations

Sometimes I look at the blog's starting letters and the left bar with all the squares, and I see that they become weird, funny words. Try to look at the left bar the next time you make a post! Maybe you'll find a word! Maybe you might even be able to make one! ^^

Any lunch recommendations?

Recently, I was able to discover new places around school thanks to my classmates in IE. The third burger and the burrito place that Gil took me were absolutely delicious! I came to realize that even though I've been at Aoyama since high school, I'm not too familiar with Shibuya eating place. If you have any other recommendations for lunch around school, please let me know!

Exercise

I've been on a diet for a while now.. But my weight loss honestly isn't getting any better. It hasn't moved from 67 kg. It keeps going from there, to 68, to 69, and back to 68. Do you guys have videos or Youtubers or any routines you have to keep yourself fit?

Sometimes it just suddenly lose around 2 kg, around the start of the year I lost 5 kg in a week. I sort of wish losing weight was easy like that time but right now I'm sort of in a slump.

Obachan’s garden

1,How old was Linda Obama’s grandmother when Linda discovered her secret?

A, 100 years old

2,Why did Asayo Murakami emigrated to Canada?

A,She left japan because she thought the life in Canada would be better. /her husband left her and her children wanted to stay with him since they were near the emperor.

3,What secret did Linda Obama discovered about her grandmother?

A,She had a family, two children in japan.

4,What are some good things about Obachan?

A,She would always share and have good influence to others.(by planting flowers and showing her dances wherever she’d be.

5,What makes it seem that Murakami Asayo was not a ideal parent?

A,I thought there are two sides to say that she wasn’t an ideal parnent. If we consider from the the children in japan’s perspective, her absence as a mother would be. Another thing is from the children in Canada’s side, the fact that she kept it secret that she had a family in Japan.

6,What was the touching scene in the film?

A,The touching scene was when Obachan heard the news of the bombing and got out of her house and expressed her feeling by playing her violin.

7,If it were you who would you choose?

A,I would write about my grandmother because knowing her my whole life I pictured her as a strong, thoughtful and loving person. She was a thoughtful sibling, devoted mother, adored grandmother and reliable friend. So if i were to make a film of her i believe I’d learn lots of valuable things in life.

Running

Every five months, I get the sudden urge to go on a run. It could be a light, 15 minute jog. It could also be a full on quarter marathon. Maybe some interval trainings here and there to mix up the routine. I then become severely addicted to going on runs that I go on one everyday. If I don't, the day feels incomplete.

Unfortunately, this phase only lasts for a week or two. I'm not sure I've mentioned this in my other blogs, but I am very much against routines. I'm a firm believer that repetition is what kills a man. I am also extremely inconsistent, thus a daily morning run just does not work for me. I wish it did though.

Why I am telling you this is because I want to talk about my most recent run. It was one of the best runs I've ever been on, it made me consider becoming an athlete. I do have one confession to make, though. I am saddened to tell you that it happened on a treadmill... A TREADMILL

Running out on a random street and running on a treadmill is a completely different feeling. The cold breeze that brushes the side of your face, the ever changing views, the occasional run in on another runner... It's a whole new experience. On the flip side, once you've tried all the routes that exist in your neighbourhood, it becomes harder to appreciate each run.

This eventually led me to the conclusion that I should try going on a treadmill. Yet having been an anti-treadmill since middle school, I was reluctant to start my run. I was mentally prepared to be dissapointed. As of now, to say that it was life changing is an understatement. I now have a newfound appreciation for treadmills, and I would also like to make an apology to every runner I've judged for using one over the last five years.

Currently looking forward to my next run <3 I'll update ya'll on how long my phase will last this time.

Birthday

Eyy, it's my birthday today! I don't have anything in particular today, but I'm planning to spend it with my friends. After all, I can't be at home as much as I want to. I'd might as well spend my time with my friends for the longest I can.

Obachan

How old was Linda Ohama's grandmother when Linda discovered her secret?

She had been 100 years old.

She had to meet her picture husband. A picture bride is a term that describes someone who is  paired with using only photographs and family recommendations.

What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?

She had two daughters she was forced to abandon.

What are some good things about Obachan?

She plays the violin and grows her garden. She spreads love anywhere she goes.

What makes it seem that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?

She would leave them to cook their own meals while she would leave nearly every day to go to town.

What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film?

Asayo and Chieko are meeting again after 75 years.

If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you choose and why?

I would make a film about my parents who decided to immigrate into a country they are not familiar with, such as the language, lifestyle, and culture. I grew up knowing that I was a third culture kid, but I sometimes wonder how my parents view the same world we live in.

Obachan the avant-garde of the east

Sorry guys, no interesting analysis from me, I’m quite desperate to finish this

She immigrated to marry a man whom payed her to come to Canada. She was a picture bride, meaning the marriage was solely decided with pictures of each other.

  3. What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?

Before traveling to Canada, Asayo had a a husband and two children. They were separated when her husband went to work of the emperor.

4. What are some good things about Obaachan?

She cherished her friends and connection with people. She would bring beauty wherever she went with her gardens and music.

5. What makes it seem that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?

6. What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film?

The scene with the fire. Something about the contrast of the warmth of the fire and the coldness of Asayo’s heart was beautiful to me.

7. If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you choose and why?

I would choose to film my father as most of his life before my birth is unknown and I would get to connect with my Turkish heritage.

6. The most touching point in the film was where obaachan was able to see the her daughter the first time in 75 years.

7. If I were to make a film I would make it for my mother as she has gone to USA and New Zealand and I would like to know what experiences she had at those countries.

To All The Books I Never Read

 Dearly beloved,

I have more books than trophies sitting on my shelf, and these pages have been marked by the dust of time; no longer my fingertips or even a part of myself. I stare at the unburied coffin of stories in the corner of my room. When will I find time again between your pages, singing the prose of lost prose and lessons. There is a dead longing in my throat and breathless anguish in the absence of your words, I have turned into a crevice for your stories to make whole. And so, quietly, I swore.

lists

oh no, I haven't written a blog in so long :(

I want to talk about something but I don't really know what to talk about so I'm going to list some things I like/ like to do recently.

1) Nut milk
specifically, almond milk. I can't really have any nut products in my house because one of my family members is allergic. What I can do, and recently have been doing, is buy a small almond milk pack on my way to school and enjoy it before class. (which I will stop soon because $$$$$$)

2) 4 pushes of perfume
I've always loved zesty scents and citrus fruits make my nostrils tingle in a good way ya know? Recently I bought a perfume? I think it's perfume, nothing very expensive but its top notes are citrus and YUZU. I love yuzu so much the scent is so TINGLY in my brain and nostrils. The thing is it's Eau de Toilette, which simply put means the smell disappears faster. Even though I do 4 pushes of my Eau de toilette yuzu perfume it evaporates off my skin by the time I get to school. I cannot share my brain tingles with everyone :(
( if you have read this far I'm curious to know what everyone's favorite scent is please comment down below?)

3) The breezy days
It's been so sunny lately but the days with a nice breeze save me from melting when I do my assignments outside.

4) Coffee?!?!
I despised coffee before because of how bitter and disgusting it was, now...I'm okay with it, I might even say I like it and I'm ready to try some black coffee.

4) Stressing over what I should wear for school.
I do it almost every night, and when I can't decide I do it in the mornings. Since I do it so often it probably means some part of me actually enjoys it.

4. What are some good things about Obaachan? She's a social butterfly who makes it seem like flowers surround her wherever she walks. Instead of vegetables, she grows lots of flowers to brighten up the place.

5. What makes it seem that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent? She was always keeping a secret from the other children she had, always wanting to go back to Japan.

6. What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film? The violin being fixed and returned to Obaachan.

7. If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you choose and why?

16 Personalities Test

It seems to be that everybody in our IE class is taking the 16 Personalities Test. I decided to hop on the trend to see what the internet has to say about me.

Turns out, I'm an INFP-T: Introverted (55%), Intuitive (74%), Feeling (52%), Prospecting (58%), Turbulent (68%). I've taken several personality tests over the last few years, and this is probably the most accurate it's ever been. Although it could also mean that I lied on the tests I've taken in the past in order to get the results I wanted.

What's more, INFP-Ts and INFP-As are categorized into a "Mediator" personality. They are considered to be idealistic, passionate, creative, yet also unrealistic, self-critical and desperate to please. Again, pretty accurate I must say... The website breaks down your personality in seven categories, such as romantic relationships, friendships, workplace habits, and it's been pretty interesting reading them. Everything that they have to say seems to explain my recent behaviors. It's all making sense...

It also said that celebrities including Johnny Depp, Tom Hiddleston, Julia Roberts, William Shakespeare are also Mediators. That felt pretty good to hear, considering how talented and creative they are.

Individual and Culture

 Good Evening.

Before I delve into a deep sleep, I want to meditate on the relationship between the individual and culture.

Ever since I was 9, and of course, like most of you, I had the privilege to explore different cultures at different ages (I will spare detailed explanations because it would take too long to explain). From a Jungian perspective, we as an individual derive from the Great Mother, the feminine, the source from which life emerges, and from which life is devoured. Culture is to be symbolized as the Great Father, which guarantees a stable life for individuals to a great degree (however, it is close to impossible to stave off the perils of Mother Nature).

The dichotomy between the feminine and masculine principles is so interesting. According to a disciple of Jung, Erich Neumann, there exists principles such as:

- The Great Mother (nurturing, loving side of nature)

- The Terrible Mother (terrible aspects of nature)

- The Great Father (symbolized as a functional culture, providing stability)

- The Terrible Father (patriarchy, tyranny, totalitarianism).

These concepts are immensely valuable because they could contribute to the understanding of our world.

I lately contemplated the differential manifestation of my personality depending on the culture I am dealing with. For example, I am inclined to be remarkably outgoing within the Italian context, and rather intellectual and introverted when adopting the German framework. I do not know whether this is impacted only by cultural differences. In my limited experience, the German language is strictly logical, which allows for a malleable expression in academic contexts, whereas Italian is unquestionably romantic (it's a Romance language too), affective and elegant, appropriate for relationships in general.

Despite the notable differences in cultures, we ought not to forget that we all derive from the Great Mother. We all share the same vulnerabilities, and we all are prone to the same kinds of perils. I hope that the history of humanity turns out as a comedy, not a tragedy. Why not be the hero/heroine? We could, even in the slightest sense. We all have our own specific inclinations. If one claims not to have any talent, that's only because it is not discovered yet. I tend to be optimistic. In fact, I have hope in our genuine will, which is to be catalyzed through compassion, gratitude, and fortitude.

I feel it comforting to write. It's my personal way to bring about catharsis. I hope to get better at writing while enjoying this journey.

Thank you for reading and have a nice week!

Affectionately,

Ken

Cookie Exhibition

I just saw the news of the Cookie exhibition will be held in Yokohama Sogo which is a big department store in Yokohama station. I am a huge fan of sweet things so I look up for the stores and goods. What I saw was like a treasure chest of cookies. They were a bit expensive but the container is also beautiful that I can use it as keeping letters.  I want to visit there when I have time.

If you are curious about this exhibition, you should look up!

Better call saul Season 6 episode 7 Midseason Finale aired yesterday

Horror

You guys like scary things? I like horror stuff but like scary stories the best, things like japanese kaidan. Junji Inagawa is a good scary story teller If you guys are interested. Im also interested in jikobukken and shinrei spots. Jikobukens are weird as its probably a Japanese only thing and most places, people have probably died on/in. So i'd like to experience living in one for a few weeks. I'm a science adict so I don't believe in ghosts or super natural things but I still wish that someday i'll be able to encounter one one day. When people say that they've seen ghosts its most likely a delusion they saw. When people are told that a thing is there the brain thinks that a thing is actually there.(sorry for the bad explanation) It's kind of like the placebo effect where a medicine that has no effect on the symptom, works as you are told that it works. If you've ever seen 'ghosts' please tell me.

Obaachan's Garden

  1. How old was Linda Ohama's grandmother when Linda discovered her secret?
She was 100 years old.
  1. Why did Asayo Murakami emigrate to Canada? (What is a "picture bride"?)
She emigrated to Canada in order to make a living. A picture bride refers to a practice where immigrant workers got married on the suggestion of a matchmaker who exchanged photographs between the potential grooms and brides. This was one of the very few ways women could immigrate to a different country.
  1. What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?
She discovers that upon leaving for Canada, Murakami had to leave two of her children behind.
  1. What are some good things about Obaachan?
She appreciated art, in a way that she played the violin, as well as enjoyed making flower gardens.
  1. What makes it seems that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?
Most will argue that she is not an ideal parent due to the fact that Murakami left her seven children at home to go out with her friends almost everyday. She left them to do their own chores regardless of how young these children were.
  1. What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film?
The scene where Murakami was running around the field with her violin in her hands, upon finding out that Hiroshima had been bombed. The reference to the painting Christina's World by Andrew Wyeth definitely made this scene more moving.
  1. If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you pick and why?
I would love to make a film focusing on my grandmother's life. She was born right in the middle of World War II, thus the making of this documentary will most likely help me understand history a little better.

Obaachan's Garden

Linda Ohama's grandmother was 100 years old when she discovered her secret.

She immigrated to get married as a picture bride. A picture bride is a system where they use pictures to matchmaker single women who wanted husbands in America.

3)What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?

She found out that Asayo Murakami had to leave her two small children behind when she left for Canada.

4)What are some good things about Obaachan?

Obaachan was very talented at many things such as gardening, playing the violin, and socializing. She was also very good at adapting to new environments.

5)What makes it seem like Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?

She would often neglect her children by making them stay at home and starve while she went out to town to see her friends by herself.

6)What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film?

Chieko was able to reunite with her mother Asayo Murakami after 75 years of separation.

7)If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you choose and why?

I would also make a film about my grandmother because she has been all over the world and has so many friends. I would love to hear about her experiences and meet all her worldwide friends.

16 Personalities Test

Good evening!

Credits to Arisa who recommended to take the test.

I was curious about my traits too, so I took the test right away after I got home (after all, the test exists thanks to Dr. Jung's contributions to the world of psychology).

I considered myself an ambivert, I adore both introverted and extroverted types of leisure, such as reading, writing, going to parties, bars, playing sports...

I love bars. I miss Italy.

Well, I took the test and it turned out that I am a so-called ENFP-A , which stands for:

- Extraverted (68%)

- Intuitive (71%)

- Feeling

- Perceiving

- Assertive. (64%)

Nature: based on principles (82%)

Tactics: based on research (68%)

Pretty interesting.

I think that the test is pretty accurate for I get energized by the company, focus on ideas and concepts, prioritize people and emotions and prefer freedom and flexibility.

Now that I leaked you my traits, it is your turn! It is interesting to discover our characteristics.

Enjoy your student life and have a good night!

Stuffed Rabbit

Today I had a dream of my house burning. But my house was in a different place next to Starbucks and Tsutaya and my house was an old Japanese house. The first thing I was worried about was my stuffed rabbit that was in the house. I got the stuffed rabbit as a gift from America for my birthday when I was three. I didn't get so attached to it until I was around seven. But sense then I have always kept it in my room or took it to the park to play or ride in the car with it sometimes and I always brought it with me when I travel and I even brought it with me to Tokyo. I have had several dreams before this when the rabbit was cut to shreds or I lost it or something like that. Maybe its the fear of being powerless and not being able to do anything when something happens. But the stuffed rabbit has never been in any of those situations and its safe at home as long as my roommates don't decide to trash my room or something.

This past weekend

This past weekend I had a golf tournament in Mito, which is why I wasn't at school last Friday. It was a league match consists of 8 universities and I went there with first-string members in our golf club. Although our team came in 4th, I had 2 fine rounds of golf and ALMOST received the MVP award😅

Also, Saturday was my 19th birthday and my teammates greeted me with a free yakiniku😆 I also wanna say thank you to people who texted me on my birthday!

Obaachan's Garden directed by Linda Ohama

 1)   How old was Linda Ohama’s grandmother when Linda Discovered her secret?

She was 100 years old.

2)   Why did Asayo Murakami emigrate to Canada? (What is a “picture bird”?)

She emigrated to Canada to get married but ended up working so she could pay back the money for transportation that the former groom paid for her. A picture bride is when a pride and a groom is paired using only pictures and family recommendations.

3)   What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?

She leaned that Obachan’s husband took the kid and left her to work and live inside the walls of the Imperial Palace.

4)   What are some good things about Obaachan?

She brings beauty wherever she goes. For example, rather than planting vegetables in the garden she planted colorful flowers.

5)   What makes it seem that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?

She wasn’t home for the most part so the children felt lonely and didn’t get enough love and time from her.

6)   What is the most beautiful, touching scene in the film?

The part when Obaachan and Chieco reunites for the first time in 75 years in the garden where everyone replanted the flowers.

7)   If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you choose and why?

I would choose my father because he has a free and interesting life. Until he married my mother he had traveled the world lived, in many countries, and did many different kinds of jobs.

Obachan's Garden (NFB)

1)     How old was Linda Ohama’s grandmother when she discovered the secret?

“Obachan” was 100 years old as Linda uncovered the secret.

2)     Why did Asayo Murakami emigrate to Canada? (What is a “picture bride”?)

She had to emigrate to Canada to earn her living. Picture bride refers to the practice of selecting brides from their original countries via a matchmaker, who couple bride and groom using photographs and family recommendations of the candidates.

3)     What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?

Linda Ohama came to realize that Asayo had to leave her two kids behind as she was headed to Canada to start a new life.

4)     What are some good things about Obachan?

Obachan is a tough person. She can withstand hardships without faltering. She is artistically talented and plays violin which helps promote catharsis in dire moments (violin is therapeutic). She reminds me of my mother. I know based on my experience that tough mothers are unstoppable. I have great admiration for people like my mother.

5)     What makes it seem that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?

She would prioritize her own needs instead of taking care of her kids.

6)     What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film?

The turning point is when Obachan reunites with her biological daughter after seventy-five years of separation. They wished they had met each other sooner. The actual feeling after reuniting with each other must be of ineffable magnitude.

7)     If you were to make a film about your family member, who would you choose and why?

I would dedicate it to my mother. Her determination and ambition are impossible to define in plain words. She emigrated abroad four times and raised me in Japan, Italy in Germany with great affection. Thanks to her multilingual skills, I could inherit them too. I hope I can be more mentally and spiritually tough as my mother is. I could never express enough the degree to which I am thankful for her devotions and affection.

Obachan's Garden, Linda Ohama

How old was Linda Ohama's grandmother when Linda discovered her secret?

She had been 100 years old.

Why did Asayo Murakami immigrate to Canada? What is a 'picture bride'?

Asayo was betrothed to a Japanese immigrant living in Canada. A picture bride refers to choosing a bride via a matchmaker, who paired couples using only photographs and family recommendations.

What secret did Linda Ohama discover about her grandmother, Asayo Murakami?

Ohama discovered that her grandmother had been forced to abandon her two young daughters when she left Japan for Canada.

What are some good things about Obachan?

She appears to be a very talented woman. Being able to dance and play the violin well. She also appeared to love growing her flower garden.

What makes it seem that Asayo Murakami was not an ideal parent?

Asayo would sometimes neglect her children, leaving them to cook their own meals and such while she would leave nearly every day to go to town. Ohama's own mother even bursts into tears, complaining bitterly about the neglect she suffered as a child.

What is the most wonderful, touching scene in the film?

The most touching scene in the film was Asayo and Chieko meeting again after 75 years. But another scene that really left an impression on me was when Asayo ran through the field after finding out about the Hiroshima Bombing--playing the violin haphazardly while crying and screaming.

If you were to make a film about a family member, who would you choose and why?

I would make a film about my mother who had experienced life in many countries like Australia, Hong Kong, America, and Japan. She had also grown up in the Philippines during the Martial Law, so I think it would be interesting to make a documentary about her experiences, how she immigrated to Japan, and the difficulties of being a mother to three children.

Obachan's Garden Report

  Obachan’s Garden by Linda Ohama

1) Linda Ohama’s grandmother was 100 years old when Linda discovered her secret.

2) There was a picture marriage in Canada and she was looking for someone to marry. So she decided to move to Canada.

3) Linda’s grandmother, Asayo, had two children in Japan before emigrating to Canada. She told nothing about her two children to her children born in Canada.

4) Obachan plays violin well and dances well. Also she loves gardening. From those things, I can infer that she is bright and has many friends.

5) She felt alone in Canada so she went to her friend’s house frequently and played. That makes children do housework from early ages and they felt loneliness because of the absence of their mother,

6) The moment when she knew that there was a bombing in Hiroshima and the city has completely destroyed. She grabbed the violin and run to the place where there was no one. She played the violin, cried, worried about her family in Hiroshima. Throughout the movie, she was kind and positive and that was the first time she impressed her emotion.

7) I will choose to make a film about my mother. She has an experience of studying in Spain and I don’t know much about that. So I will make a film of her studying abroad.

I will just put on the answer only here. If I need to put questions as well, please let me know!

Band Club’s Live

Last week, my band club had held a live event at a live house in Shimokitazawa. We had many of our talented personalities preform copy bands of numerous artists, such as: Vaundy, King Gnu, Bump of Chicken and many others. According to the head of the club, the hype in the crowd had exceeded all the past events. Made me extremely happy to hear that I had experienced history.
I’d like to follow senpai’s footsteps as well.

Water bottle/Thermostats

Ever since I was young, I always got the tendency to grow extremely drowsy during classes. No matter how interested or determined I was in the class, I would get sleepy in the end.

Recently I've been trying different ways to keep myself awake. Eye drops, having tea, trying to stare at the laptop screen and resumes needed for the class... but it doesn't work!

My next plan is to bring coffee to school from home inside my thermostat, but I haven't done it before. I'm a bit worried it might leak? Have you guys done this before? Is it safe?

And... Do you guys ever get drowsiness when you don't want it?

How I’m destroying myself

I get way too anxious when I post my writing on the blog. Its not that Im incapable of writing, its more of a mental issue, rather than an academic one . Posting and handing in homework becomes a huge mountain when anxiety takes over, so I just need to stop doing this one thing thats destroying my life,

overthinking

Even if I complete my piece of writing, I just cant bring myself to click that submit button. I get anxiety from believing that my writing isnt good enough, or maybe I can structure it better. In a way, maybe Im a perfectionist, a lazy perfectionist.

But hey, maybe its better to write something then not to write anyting at all right? So Ill probably be handing in response papers and blogs even if its not the best thing in the world.

Ill fix up errors and add more when I feel like it. This method would probably help me finish my work on time, and itll release me from the loop of death I keep running into.

So from now on Ill make sure to just post, because maybe, just maybe, the post isnt that bad. Even if my writing is really horrible this blog has an editing system so Ill just add more writing and fix it up later. Ill probably fix and add to this post as well.
