The Tower of Babel

The Tower of Babel.

It is one of my favorite myths.

It appears in Genesis, and it is a masterpiece of Biblical Literature.

I have a copy hung in my room.

Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” But the Lord came down to see the city and the tower the people were building. The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” (retrieved from Wikiquotes)

This origin myth makes me contemplate the nature of language, which is exclusive by nature. It is impossible to include everything linguistically, obviously. But presumably, our ancestors strove to build this tower, so that humanity can be united with the language of God.

I forgot what I wanted to write, it's too difficult a topic so I will allude to memes.

Yes, I am capricious.

The British evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins is known for conceiving memes as living beings being able to propagate themselves as biological organisms do.

So interesting.

Language lives.

It is our precious heritage.

Perhaps it is because of its limitations that we have an infinite way to distill its patterns.

I am deeply concerned about its instrumentalization in pathological ideologies and autocratic societies.

Assertiveness is a weapon with which we must contribute to the prosperity of the world we live in. Why use verbal fluency for the sake of external impetus, such as fame or power. We need to orient ourselves properly.

I hope we make the most of our efforts to strive for our prosperity.

That being said, I will delve deeper into this topic in my dreams.

💤

Good night.

This is amazing. I was always confused about the story as to why God had to divide the language.
