Modern Times

The setting is in 1930s of America. In this age, the Great Depression was happened and many people lost their jobs. This film draw people who were involved in the happening and country kept industrialization comically.

The story is told from third person point of view.

The main conflict of this film is Government vs Citizen.

I think the house that Chaplin’s fiancé built is symbol of her dream and the manufacture is symbol of the age 1930s.

At the climax, Chaplin and his fiancé lived together with happy face, though Chaplin lost his job and once she was disappointed.

I think irony of this film is that Chaplin could live happily with his fiancé nevertheless he lost his job again and again, moreover was arrested sometime.

What Chaplin want to say is “keep smiling, don’t forget humor” and “be justice”.
