Modern times

Even though I was interested in Chaplin for the long time, I have never watched his movies. So it was my first opportunity. Chaplin in this movie was so cute and funny and attractive.

Setting is United States in 1930s when was suffering from great depression.
Conflict is Chaplin vs society. He always tried to find his new job.
I think symbol in this movie is the lunch machine. This machine symbolize how tough people then had to work. In this movie, that was a very funny scene but I think it means terrible working condition.
Climax was very happy. Chaplin and his fiancé walked together to find free and happy life.
Irony of this movie was that Chaplin couldn't get stable and happy life even though he wished strongly and tried hard. And he was always smiley and looked happy no matter bad situation he had. I think this is also irony.
Theme of this movie is hope. 1930s in America was very terrible. But Chaplin never forgot to be hopeful.
