The Look

The place of this story is  third avenue, and it was warm summer night then. The person who tells us this story must be an omniscient because the person knew that the woman felt lonely and sorry for herself. Probably she was fighting against herself. She thought of jumping off the bridge because of her feeling. It means there was a conflict between she and herself. Probably the climax of this story is the scene that a a man hit a telephone pole, and the irony is that she smiled in spite of her feeling. I think there are two symbols in this story. One is the bridge, whose color is grey. Probably it showed her bad feeling. The other is the telephone pole which the man hit. It might represent the change of the woman's feeling. I think this story tells us that even small things can change people's feelings.
